    Oroville

Hey all, I head over to the wildlife preserve range in Oroville fairly often and I noticed that it is getting rather cluttered. I read somewhere that it is cleaned up on the third Thursday of every month, but I wanted to do a bit more than that. I was considering heading out there and doing some cleaning by myself, but I wasn't sure what the etiquette was.

I was planning on rolling out early morning on a weekday and crossing my fingers for no shooters. I figure that an empty range is wishful thinking, but that is ok because I could probably get a truckload from the staging area anyway.

Please chime in with any advice on how to go about doing this properly. Thanks.

I usually pick up around my general area when shooting there. I have also arrived 5 minutes after sunrise and found the place full, so YMMV.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

I wasn't calling anyone out on not cleaning. We've all littered and unfortunately many people, myself included, sometimes follow bad examples. I was just looking for something that I can do to help the shooting community.

And thanks for the sunrise comment. That is disappointing, but not unexpected.

At least the early birds tend to be safe & sane.

I would be up for cleaning up around the tables if we can find a slow day.

I bet if you went out there a half hour before sunrise, you'd be able to get a truckload or two. Pretty much all of the folks that go way early, during the week, are old timers who are pretty serious about their shooting. I bet they'd appreciate it.

I thought the crack heads and Mongs have been doing a pretty good job. At least cleaning up anything that can be recycled. Can't even find a .22 casing on the ground there anymore!

They do seem to be well-organized and their efforts are appreciated. Still, there are tons of steel casings, shotgun hulls and general trash accumulating.

I wonder what a rolling magnet would pick up in an hour's time. At least a truckload of steel, maybe three?

^ Exactly. I was planning on going for it with a buddy, but if we could get a group that'd be awesome. I'll volunteer my truck.

I'm sort of between trucks right now, but the "new old truck" should be on the road within the next week. 3/4 ton, load it up.

If you get a time ironed out, count me (plus one or two) in to help. I was out at 7am this morning and it looked freshly cleaned up.

Awesome response. I'll give the wildlife preserve a call and see if we need any permissions, etc. and then we can pick a day.
