    SJPD Gun Buy Back Fundraiser

Found this in the local section of the SJ Mercury News today.

San Jose Police Department will be holding a gun buyback Dec. 13 at PAL stadium. They will hold a fundraiser 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Rosie McCann's on Santana Row on Wednesday. Article did not give date. I assume it is the 26th. This is being promoted by crowdfunding site GunByGun. Below is the VIP list.
    SJPD Chief Larry Esquivel
    DA Jeff Rosen
    Mike Honda
    Nora Campos
    Xavier Campos
    Cindy Chavez

How does that work? You go to the fundraiser and donate money so that some old widow can sell her husband's gun for less than it's worth?

I'm not a fan of the Merc News site, but if you wanted to read the article it is:

It doesn't state if public money will be used in conjunction of what is raised at the fund raiser/crowd sourced. I wish we used the AZ model discussed in a different thread where the guns were resold to FFL's instead of being destroyed.

How come Aldon Smith is not on the list?

And what about Ray McDonald. I hear he is very close to the SJPD. I understand he even has his own officer.

That's funny. Santana row does not permit guns on their property.
Rosie McCanns is a bar, too.
          I work at "the row".
I feel sorry for anyone selling any guns for far less than what they are worth.
But I gather that these publicity stunts usually end up with the grabbers buying a whole bunch of rusty pieces of junk that aren't worth anything. Then they can boast that they've removed x number of guns "from the street". Like these rusty relics are "on" the street. They are buried in piles of junk in grannies basement.
          Gun buy backs are dumb!

lets hold a gun buying campaign across the street from where they are having a buyback and offer people for valuable guns more than what SJPD is offering. That will surely piss them off.

Do they check the gun records during the buy back?
