I would check out the Pocket/Greenhaven area. It's a small little area somewhat separated by highway 5 from the more ghetto Florin and Mac roads. It's mostly residential with a couple private schools, some nursing homes, and a couple small areas of business (bank/grocery/restaurants) It's very quiet most of the time. It's about a 10-15 minute drive to sac state with no traffic. River city gun exchange is the nearest gun store, about 5-10 minutes away.

I can't remember the last time I had any problem getting ammo shipped (Carmichael, east Sacramento County).
You can legally receive ammo shipments even in the City of Sacramento. The city has an ordinance requiring sales of ammo at local brick-and-mortar shops to be reported. It doesn't actually apply to mailed ammo at all.

There's so much confusion about this one that many online retailers refuse to ship to City of Sac, and some refuse to ship to County, and there's at least one that won't ship to City of West Sacramento, even though it's in Yolo county. But it has that scary "Sacramento" in its name.

LAX Ammo ships to City of Sacramento addresses. They have decent prices, and have a really good sale once or twice a year.

Of course, if the veto referendum fails, all of that will be moot, as shipping ammo will be banned.

Remember the 5 sale transactions per year rule. Not 5 guns, 5 transactions.

And until the restrictions actually take place, it's always good to provide out of state vendors with the attached letter from the City Attorney. Note paragraph 2: http://www.hoffmang.com/firearms/Sac...2009-12-03.pdf

Stay out of Sac County. Live I the foothills, the foothills are much more conservative and less crime. Personally I perfer the I80 corridor Roseville, Rocklin, Auburn.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

                      Go look at www.raidsonline.com
Look at crime and then start looking at the foothills off 80 or 50...IMHO.

The county is hit and miss, since you don't know the area and everyone has an opinion, your safe bet is just outside Sac such as: Roseville, Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Auburn, Etc...much more family friendly...
I'd rent, since 3-5 down line is a crap shoot for prices on resale...
                      Good luck and welcome!

Don't forget to check out Woodland (not that I'm prejudice or anything )

I-5 or I-80 is easy access as well from town. Nice areas and some even rural if that's what you want. Not too pricey either. Short commute to Sac as well.

                          +1 - that's right! 1 transaction can be 1M handguns!

Thanks! Didn't know about that website but will keep it bookmarked now.

Thanks for the post, that actually helped quite a bit.

Right now my wife and I are trying to decide between the Eastern side vs the Southern side of the city (well the surrounding area at least). Kind of depends if we see ourselves spending more time out in Tahoe or more time towards SF/San Jose/ect areas.

I live in Rocklin off of Highway 65. Crime is minimal. It's Placer county so CCW is good to go and without the BS politics that Sheriff Scott Jones is fighting against from those who want to restrict CCW permits for political gain.

Your child is young enough that schools don't matter much yet but Rocklin is one of the top school districts in the area if not the top. I work on the border of Rancho Cordova/Sacramento and it's about 45 mins in the AM, probably 1 hour home but I come down Hazel while you would come down 80.

If you have questions about Rocklin feel free to PM me.

Don't pick the place you live based on its proximity to other places you want to be. Your happiness will be driven by anticipation of not being home. You will only be happy when you're not there.
