    Shooting spots

    Hello,
Sorry for beating on a topic I've seen discussed here many times before, but I'm looking for a non-range shooting spot. I want to take my son out for his first time shooting a .22. He's 6, and a little sensitive to loud noises, so I want to avoid a real range with large caliber guns.

The closest spot I know of is Sly Park, but we're in Natomas, so that's a 2 hour round trip for a 6 year-old. If anyone has a closer suggestion, please PM me. I'm the kind of person who puts my shopping carts back in the cart return, so I will be respectful of any site. In fact, if anyone has a spot, but is concerned about sharing, I'm happy to agree to just make it a one-time use. I just want to make sure everything goes well for his first time shooting.

    Thanks.

Their are no "secret" spots out here other than private land some of us have access to. Make some friends in the country. I sometimes shoot in Elverta, Foresthill, Auburn but it is all on private land. Other than that it's the usual suspects like Sly Park or the Quarry in Foresthill. Or the pay ranges.

Hey OP, you ever find and spots? New to the area and on the lookout for some non range spots.

Make the trip to Sac Valley. There is a steel rim fire range there that is ideal for young shooters. My boys, 11 & 13 still have a blast knocking down the steel silhouettes and there's always room to shoot, even on the weekends. It's next to the pistol range but far enough away that the noise is not an issue.

+1 to Sac Valley. The rimfire range is on the far right side, and I don't know what it is about it but once you walk into that area it gets significantly quieter.
