New to the forum, have a handgun but never shot a shotgun before and interested in getting a HD shotgun and trying some clay sports. I was wondering if there was a combination course anywhere or am I forced to take two separate courses. Thanks

Take a look at the skeet classes that are at the top of the page in the shotgun section. I took the one in Northern Cal. (South San Jose) and recommend the course. The instructor (Thefeeder) is a knowledgeable and patient teacher.
He'll go over some basics about shotguns & then get you out to break some clays. Lots of people will tell you that you'll eventually need two different shotguns, one for HD and one for clays, since a lot of clay ranges have barrel length restrictions. -
I have taken a course at Coyote Valley Sporting clays that was called the Experience Package (3 or more people required). Includes clays instruction, rental, etc. We didn't need shotgun basics so don't know it that could be included or not. Check their website for other possibilities.

I think folks could provide better advice if we had an idea where you were located. In general, defensive shotgunning and the clays sports are pretty different. Obviously the basics of shotgunning will carry over, I would suggest you take separate classes from folks that specialize in both.
Depending on location, you might even get a Calgunner willing to help get you started.Comment
