Ranges where I can rent rifle and try my hand at 100yrds?

I've been looking at the different ranges in the area and it looks like there are rifle rentals but they're usually small caliber and range itself is 25yrds.

Is there anywhere in the bay that has ranges that go out to 100yrds and where I can rent a rifle at a proper big game hunting caliber? Would love to get some range time before purchasing a rifle.

What kind of game are you looking to hunt? What caliber are you looking for?

I have my first hunt planned for a few months from now. We'll be hunting wild pig but want to hunt deer in the future. Have a tight budget and want a rifle and caliber that will allow me to be able to open the possibility of going for elk in a few years. After some research I've got my sights on using .308 or .30-06 caliber. Really depends on the type of deal on a rifle I can find.

The rifles I've been looking into that my budget will allow looks like the Savage 111 and Ruger American. Possibly a Remington 783 if I can find any.

But before all that, would really like to get some rounds down range.

Go on the hunting forum and see if anyone in the Bay Area has the caliber you are wanting to try out and would meet you at a range to let you shoot. Springing for the ammo is always a nice gesture as well.

If you spring for lunch you might get alot of "free" advice on hunting as well.

That's a brilliant idea. Thanks for the advice, I have my hunter safety course tomorrow and really looking forward to learning how to properly prep for hunting.

Also, after some research it's pretty safe to say there are no 100yrd ranges that rent rifles right?

I've seen some 25yrd ranges that rent .22 rifles but not the caliber I'm looking for.

What is your budget? I'm sure I'll catch some flac for suggesting...a Mosin. Its more then enough for a pig and it will do just fine on elk if you do your part. It sounds like you don't have much experience at long range, so keep it under 200yds and the mosin should do just fine. You can pick one up for under $150, spend some money on proper ammo and set the sights.

If you come out to Sacramento I have a Savage 110 30-06 you can put some rounds through. I shoot at Sac Valley. There might be a Remington 770 in 308 available too. Just bring some ammo (factory, no reloads)

Yessir! Savage 111 Trophy Hunter. Comes with the accutrigger and Nikon as opposed to the bushnell and non-accutrigger XP version.

Great choice! I have a savage and a Stevens. I suggest trying out a bi pod, it sure does make it easier to shoot and it will fold up when you don't need it.

Been looking for the same thing, closest I found is Nice Shot in Redding, about 4 hours away from the bay area.

Closer to home, Bullseye has an AR15 and I think that's it for rifles.

Nice Shot is a small indoor range with poor lighting and 25 yards max. They do however rent rifles, handguns and full autos

Ah thx. Never been to Redding, you like it up there?
