    Shooting at Panoche

    Hi,

I'm new to this BLM shooting. I live in San Jose and would like to find a safe outdoor shooting location at Panoche. What is the best route for me to get to the shooting zone? I want the shooting to be safe for bystanders and myself. Is there a guide as to when and where to shoot after reaching Panoche? Thanks.

What's it like out there? Anyone have photos?

How do you know where you are ok to shoot?

It's open from Oct-March or April, I forget. Once you past the gate and get onto public area, which is about 3mi from main gate, the trails are marked P1,P2.... Just find a trail and drive on it till you find a spot that looks good to shoot and camp. A good backstop, relatively flat. Just remember to clean up everything when you leave. Also, you must get a camp fire permit for a fire. You can get one online they are good for the year. Anyone, anything else I forgot? It's about 2-2 1/2 hours from S.J.

you get inside the second gate, and you'll know. Pull right over and have at it, or drive in off the main road and find an even better spot deeper in. Or pull off on one of the side roads and be one of those "When I don't want to be found, I will not be found" guys. Plenty of places for your personal fav spot.

And I bet there's a road right on top of that ridge off in the distance if anyone wanted to drive a truck over there and set up a steel on a stand a few yards down the top. Looks like a nice spot to do some shooting at a few hundred yards.
