    Hangun Safety Certificate - Veteran

    Hello,

Reading through the Handgun Safety Certificate booklet it says you dont need to take the if you are Honorably Retired. Does that imply that you can have served less than 20 years but received an honorable discharge or must you have served a full 20 and retired?

    Thanks!

IF you have a retired ID, you don't need a HSC in CA. IF you do not... then you do not pass go and you need to take the test.

Don't you just love the California Republic!

Because being in the military for 19 years 11 months is just not good enough for California!

Neither the HSC or military service say very much about the ability of people to handle guns safely.

I took a HSC test yesterday it took about 6 minutes. I missed two intentionally to see if they even checked it. They did boy don't I feel safer.

test is a joke, if you do indeed fail it, stay far away from any firearms, far away.

A CCW makes you exempt. That's not so comforting either.

Only a California CCW makes you exempt, I believe if you have one from another state you still have to take the test.

The test is ridiculously easy. When I had to re-take it about 4 or 5 months ago because mine had expired, I knocked it out in about 2 minutes flat. I did get one wrong. I'm so old I forgot you have to be 21 to buy a handgun in California, so I put 18. Heck, you can join the service at 18 and get to use all kinds of cool stuff, but you can' t buy a revolver until you're 21.
