I was looking at this over the weekend. Anyone have one and can you give me some feedback?

Pros:Light-Single Shot-

Cons:Very plastic feel...

Something along those lines.

I have about 6 or so. They shoot great, easy for little kids to handle. Only cons I can think of is the safety is sometimes hard for smaller hands to run, varies from gun to gun, and extraction can be a bit tough sometimes. I think it might help to run a chamber hone through them but I have not gotten around to doing that yet.


Otherwise they are good little guns.

My 6 and 8 yr old got the this yr. great guns for them to learn on and accurate.

I personally don't like the sight but they work fine and the kids don't care.

I would recommend them.

My 8 year old got his when he was 6. It's a great little gun and he was a small kid, but could easily shoot it offhand and do all the loading, bolt operation and safety manipulations on his own.

They're accurate with a great trigger. He's a great shot and I credit a lot of that to a great .22 that encourages good technique.

Savage customer service is top notch. I had an issue with the plastic stock being warped that I didn't notice in store. Savage had a new stock to me within a week of me shipping out the old. Can't ask for much better when figuring that I shipped it to them via UPS ground.

Great little gun. So much better to give your kid a gun that fits them than make them struggle with something bigger or heavier. The trigger is fantastic, its very accurate and I, for one, like the sight. I'm with the OP in seeing the single shot as a bonus; keeps the little ones from burning through ammo .

That and the inevitable "HEY DID YOU SEE I HIT THAT!" while he muzzles the entire line, grinning from ear to ear at his first 100 yard shot.

Single box of 50 target/subsonic and man do the kids smile, and when they are done with the box, they are ready to go run around. Cheap date!

I got one for both my kids.

Very light weight and good balance for smaller shooters. Not just the shorter barrel, but also slimmer profile. Extraction and running the bolt can be done by small hands easily.

I love my kids rascal, it brought the fun back after shooting magnums. Maybe it was just shooting with the kids too.They dont feel chintzy at all, if youre wondering. One is exceptionally accurate, the other about 1" at 25yds no matter the ammo. weird.

I love those things. As stated above, great trigger and accuracy...I would shoot it all the time if it had an adjustable stock! My daughter found the aperture rear sight tougher to get used to than an open notch, but no big deal. Great for learning to shoot from the basics on up. Just two and a half pounds!

As jb7706 says, the one negative is the safety is way too stiff…and IMO, upsets the flow. I would love to hear of anyone doing a fix on that.

Good question, I agree on the safety. But the only time I've used a safety is when moving while loaded, and this rifle doesn't go anywhere loaded. Easy enough to just remove the bolt (hold down trigger while working bolt) or keep a chamber flag in (which Savage also includes).

The safety was stiff on my son's Rascal. My fix was to put on a pair of gloves and cycle it on/off over 1,000 times while watching TV. Broke it in nicely and now it's easy to flip.

I don't have any kids, but I do have a Savage Rascal in OD green. I think it's a great option as a pack rifle as it weighs in at only 2.66 pounds naked. It can shoot a variety of different .22 ammunition since it's a single shot. I've shot .22 shorts out of it and get decent accuracy up to 15 yards, .22lr is better suited for anything further than that IMO. The only problem I had with the rifle were light primer strikes, I sent it back to Savage, got the rifle back and still had light primer strikes. I put a few hundred rounds through the gun and the problem went away....not sure what happened but it now runs 100% with all kinds of ammo. It's a great rifle and I'd recommend one to anyone looking for a .22 bolt action rifle
