i would recommend asking for some basic help from range staff or find someone in your area that wouldnt mind. usually some ranges/gun stroes can help you with no problem. or you could check youtube for handgun safety tips

Just think about and ingrain the 4 basic shooting rules before you go:

        1) The gun is always loaded
        2) Finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot
        3) Be aware of your target and what is beyond
        4) Never point at anything you're unwilling to DESTROY

As mentioned, the range staff should be able to spend a few minutes with you going over this stuff, safe shooting, and operation of the firearm.

Hopefully you're both over 21, so you can rent a handgun.

A possible idea would be to ask if any SoCal Calgunners could meet up with you to get you started - that could be a good way to get intro'ed to the sport.

        Good luck!

Rule #1 is muzzle control. Always muzzle control.

Always point gun downrange, dont have finger in trigger housing until your ready to shoot, mind your ettiqette while at the range, be aware of safety rules before shooting and above all else become NRA members.Your fellow Cal Gunners will apprieciate it.

Definitely ask the range staff for instruction. For new people, the ranges around my area make you watch a short video on gun safety and gun handling
