Looking for ideas for targets, etc.

I'm looking for suggestions for what I can shoot with my two girls. They get pretty board punching paper. Tried the golf ball thing and that was great until a .38 bounced back and hit my 13yr old in the leg. She's fine. Looking for something competitive and fun for them. They are 11 and 13. Thanks for your time.

Good ideas. Do most ranges let you put out these things? I've only used the stands with paper and the spinning ones for the .22's

The private ranges at Burro Canyon used to let you shoot fruit, clay pigeons, and charcoal. Each range has their own set of rules, call and ask them before going.

            steel targets, clays, shotgun hulls,
You need to contact what ever range you plan on using and ask them

Try Vanilla wafers, biodegradable so the enviro-types don't get butt hurt. You can also use ritz crackers or tootsie pops (ball type suckers with tootsi roll in the middle of them) or suckers. If you are the healthfood type try walnuts or pecans or even tofu squares. Back east we used to use pinecones as targets. Next time you go to the grocery store look for the cheapbrand of just about anything that is dry & the shape you want, only reason I say dry is some ranges don't water mellon chunks and the like left around rotting, the crackers, nuts & hard candy disintigrate so there is no mess to speak of & no smell of rotting food.

When I was younger my dad used to roll up ketchup (and the like) packets and tape the to the target. They splat on impact. I've still been known to do that now and again for fun. :-) -Ben

My girls absolutely LOVE steel swinging targets and anything filled with liquid that they can make "explode." Instant feedback regardless of the target type is the key. They need to know they hit it before they can even reacquire the target.
9mm and 45acp are equally lousy. There's not a dime's worth of difference in REAL terminal ballistics. Get over it.
