Small grip frame. Easily controlled by kid's hands.

I bought my son a Bearcat and later as his hands grew a Ruger single six convertible. .22 and it had a .22 magnum cylinder if you wanted to shoot It. We rarely shot anything but .22. I eventually bought a handgun scope for it and that Ruger would put six rounds in a Dime size hole. My Son still talks about it. What Fun.

Another vote for the Browning 1911 22LR. Get the version with the longer barrel. On our last outing we had three kids between 10-12 yrs old running it and it performed excellent. My own kid preferred the 1911 over the Buckmark as the lighter, easier to handle pistol.

I've had terrible luck with .22lr pistols having constant malfunctions with even the best ammo in my life, so I'm wondering if you have experience with any that shoot reliable, but don't have massive grips? I know some of the Rugers, Brownings, and S&W odd looking .22lr's are supposed to be very reliable, but are the grips too big?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

        Thank you!

Taurus P-738 in .380. Good size for a ten year old girl.

For my son's pistol I spend a little extra on CCI Mini-mags instead of the cheaper ammo his rifle eats.

I bought a Taurus TX .22 semi auto, that thing never jams or malfunctions and is very light. Came with 2 mags that hold 15 rounds each. I also have a Ruger 22/45 and a Charter Arms revolver, 9 round capacity. Happy with all of them.

Browning Buckmark? I started my daughter on that when she was 7 years old. Put a Tasco Red Dot on it and she would giggle while she was shooting it.

Ruger LCP2 in .22LR? Definitely for small hands.

                  two thoughts
                  1. Walther P22
                  2. Ruger Mark IV. My niece, years ago, learned on a Mark III.

Lucky kid. When I was growing up, I had to buy my own ammo.

WRT my recco, a single action with a cowboy type grip.

He's earning it by doing chores. We put in a 2,500 gallon water tank the other day then had to cover up 300 feet of plumbing.
