Honestly you can't go wrong with either one my friend. But I like mossberg. If you can get a 590 (9 shot, load it up and protect that house)the 590s are on sale all the time at big 5. And all the mossbergs I know come with a gun lock. So when u take it home that's all you need.

PS: walmart doesn't sell guns. Just ammo.
PPS: just make sure you have your ID and you know ur social sercurity number and you will be fine.
Big 5 is what I say

Hey thanks a lot. I did some research and compared the two and I think the 590 is the right gun for me. Do you think $400 is a good price for one though at Big 5? http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.c...89984&offerid=
My car is also not working right now and when the waiting period is over and I have to pick it up, is it legal to bring it home in a taxi? lol

Remington 870. I picked up a used Wingmaster for $270.00 and it's been lots of fun to shoot. I think it's more versatile than the 590.

It would probably be up to the taxi driver but if he is already out there and you let him know you'll tip him good then he'll probably let you. I like the Remingtons better than the Mossbergs but if you want something to shoot at a range and for home defense then get the Mossberg combo.
            Insert something clever here.

Definitely get a Mossberg 500 combo. Big 5 has them on sale all the time for around 310 I think and it is totally worth getting the extra barrel. I think they hold 5 or 6 +1, which is plenty for home defense (depending on what you are expecting to happen I guess).

Thanks for the input everybody. If I can find a 870 for cheap, I'll be getting it, otherwise I should be getting a mossberg combo from big 5. I really want to upgrade it to a tactical version too

870 combo if it's on sale at Big 5. Other than that, you can get the Interstate at Big 5 for less than 300 out the door. It's an 870 clone so you can still get used to the 870 safety and what not. If you don't mind the "made in china" label it's a helluva deal, especially because of the ghost ring sights which enable you to shoot slugs further out more accurately.
                  Good luck

Depending on how the ergonomics feel on either the 500 or 870 (clone or not)
                    500/590 (or 590A1 in either in 20'' or 18'')
IAC 982 Hawk (an upgrade over the latest generatio 870)
Remington 870 (w/ metal trigger guard and no stupid J-lock)

Most likely I'll be getting the Big 5 Deal combo which is a Mossberg 500 with a 18.5" barrel and a 28" barrel. http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.c...90596&offerid=
I'll upgrade the stock to a Noxx SpecOps stock; add some other goodies too like a side saddle, flashlight, and more. Man I'm really excited to get it lol.

I regret not getting it for 229 in black friday

It was 229 again? Argh. If I were to get another home defense shotgun, it would be the Mossberg 500 for sure. I had mine with a pistol grip and side saddle. Held 8 in the tube. I do not think I would use it for anything other than HD. In flames, what type of shooting do you want to do?

I used to have a Remington 870 for hunting, and may pick up a Benelli Nova for trap. That is just me though. Run a search in the shotgun thread for suggestions.

Don't waste your money on a $200 shotgun, buy a Remington 870 for your first shotgun. Get it wherever they sell it.
