    Womens Range Gear

I talked to a number of vendors at last weeks OC Crossroads of the West Gun Show. Inquired why we don't see more range bags in colors that might appeal to women more than say digital camo, and black. Several of the vendors that did carry range bags and rifle cases in pink, purple, teal, indicated they were particularly slow sellers. One vendor said March and April had been pretty good, but then dried to a trickle.

There were a good number of women at the show, however many did not appear to be shopping for themselves.

I plan to follow up and see if the vibe is different at the Del Mar Crossroads of the West Gun Show this weekend.

Wonder if it the same story in most counties.

I'm thinking that the gear vendors are having trouble guessing what colors women might like. Barbie pink was their obvious reflex. I'm now seeing "muddy girl camo", which is Realtree with a pink background, for you OT fans. I've seen some purple gear out there too. Beretta makes one in a nice shade of blue.

I don't blame the manufacturers for not being able to guess. Women might have as many color choices for range gear as they have for shoes and handbags. I've abandoned specifically "range bags", first in favor of a laptop type backpack. Now I'm using an ordinary airplane carry-on size rolling duffle, which come in as many types and colors. And it's a lot more 'covert' getting to and from my apartment. I get looks sometimes for using the duffle, instead of lugging a bag, but ammo's heavy! And the same guys are looking to me for tape, gun oil, an allen wrench or bandaids...

Who had the Teal range bags? I might change my mind...

(And please, let's not open the dang pink debate again. 'Nuff said)

Well, considering that most vendors thing pink is the way to go, that's probably why their sales aren't very good. I wouldn't caught dead with pink...anything. I did find a very nice RealTree with a white background at Shot Show last year, courtesy of "Shady Lady Shooting." Those were nice!

But I use a nice GPS backpack for the range, and Maxpedition makes their bags in a TON of different color combinations. I think that's enough! We have a hard enough time finding women's clothing / gear in normal colors, I'd hate to encourage more pink-ification of the industry.

Thanks for the comments. We carry pink and green RealTree gun purses. We have seen some interest, haven't sold one yet.

We are trying to decide what we should be looking at well at the Shot Show next month. Should be interesting.

BonnieB, I didn't get the other vendors name, but if I see teal anything this weekend down at Del Mar, I will try to get the info for you.

I like camo, olive drab, coyote.... I just wish we had some cute accessories readily available at stores... I have a couple cute patches but would like more options!

I was working at crossroads... The vendor across from me had pink, purple and teal range bags... My first thoughts were about how fast they would get dirtied up. Besides, the colors were way too bold for my tastes.

I just repurpose luggage and other types of bags for trips to the range.
I do like those zippered pocket things but when I was buying they were only made in black. I would have bought colors but not pink had they been available.
the number of pistols I take to the range and the amount of ammo requires a sturdy setup and I find that luggage comes in great colors, sizes, etc. and works just fine for me.
also, i'm not much on logos on things and i'd prefer my set up to not advertise I've got guns/ammo.

I usually go with whatever matches my shoes for the day

I'm sure that you ladies have a similar mindset to us men: covert day and "show it off" range day.

IMO, the firearms accessories vendor industry does aim for the "Look I'm a girl and I like guns!" sort of colors. I'm sure that there are a few mature lady vendors out there, but I can see that it would be difficult considering that it is such a specialized market. Most ladies aren't exactly into "tacticool" and have individual tastes.

I'd hate to walk into a range and see that someone has the same range bag as me. I'd be competing for bullseye shots all day!

I was surprised by these results at infoplease.com
My thinking was black, white and gray would have been higher on the list of favorites.

yep....however, I bought too many black ones and can't justify that pretty zebra print! too bad as I like it.

Meyerlemony mentioned GPS Backpacks for the range so I looked 'em up. Wowee, I so want one! But with four guns, ammo and gear, I'm gonna have to figure out how to put wheels on one. Maybe if I cannibalize a rolling duffle... I especially liked the foam block to file the handguns in (in the picture it's pulled out but it actually slides back into the base of the backpack). I liked the big interior pocket for ammo, too. I'm cool with basic black, I'm a Hepburn girl after all. Or I can always tie an Hermes scarf to the top handle, a la une Francaise.

Amazon is sold out, but my birthday is coming....

It's a funny thing about range gear and clothes to shoot in. Some days I just want to fade into the background at the range, and it's head to foot black. Other days, if I'm feeling like making a resounding point of it, I'll roll out the teal, or the pink, sometimes fire-engine red. I especially want to make that point when people have been patronizing me, not yet having seen my targets. Or when there's just too much tacticool around, that needs to be balanced. So, as in everything else, I get up in the morning and choose a shirt to shoot in, and build the rest of the ensemble around it. OR, in the case of my newest gun, I'll pick out the colored grips I want that day, and build the ensemble around them. (Yah, I do have a growing assortment of colored grips for the new gun. Shameless!)

Good lord, the man gives me the gears about the duffle, and THEN wants me to pack bandaids for him. And tools and tape and all the other stuff I drag around. I even carry his water... But to know him is to love him like a brother.
