Full size .45 1911 - Ladies, make some suggestions

This thread is posted in the Women's Forum. If you OT fans are tempted to pile on, don't bother. We don't like it and we push back. However, constructive comments are always welcome.

This thread is for the women who shoot .45 1911's particularly.

    Ladies,

I'm considering a .45 1911 for my next purchase. I kinda got a bug for this and the clock is ticking on our chances for off-roster SSE guns.

I shoot .40 polymer subcompacts routinely, and am ready for the next step. I'm thinking full size, all metal 1911, because I already have plenty of small light guns.

The sexiness of the Desert Eagle appeals to me. The Ruger SR appeals to me esthetically. I always like Colts. I kinda like the Sig 220, assuming I can get one.

So, what do you women shoot, in .45? My requirements involve accuracy, reliability, un-fussiness about ammo. I'm not interested in a revolver. I think I'd like a wood grip, and I never expect to carry this one unless the apocalypse strike, so 'bigger is better'.

New requirement: replaceable sights, prefer USA made but not an exclusive requirement, not more than $1,000.

Unfortunately, I can't find a .45 in Rainbow, or that would solve the problem in one step.

    So, whadya think?

My lady personally owns a Les Baer Premier II, and the above Springfield Mil Spec trimmed out for Hardball competitions (the skateboard tape, and target sights).

I load all her 45 ammo though (and she loads the shotgun shells).

The biggest options on a 1911 that are going to improve shootability are:
      1) Grippy grips (she and I use VZ Diamond Backs exclusively on our competition pistols)
      2) Beaver Tail
      3) Front Strap Checkering
Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.

Do any of you women own a full size Desert Eagle? That's on my 'possible' list, but I can't find one to rent and test drive...

I have a Springfield MC Operator. I like it, but it is still a little too fat for my tiny hands and I find myself really having to reach for the first trigger pull. Once that's done and I'm only going out to the reset, it is fine.

I know they are crazy expensive, but I do love the feel of the Nighthawks...

I don't own one but my buddy does.

It's a neat gun. I like the novelty of it.

I shot a mag or two through it. No problems with the recoil or the weight. I guess it was b/c I was expecting it to kick like a mule so I had a really tight grip. So when I did shoot it, it was less than I had expected (but still a lot, don't get me wrong).

It's so expensive to shoot it almost makes it not worth it IMHO.
If I was picking a new full size, I would go 45 over the DE. Just my .02.

To the OP: I don't shoot a Desert Eagle, but I do have a Les Baer that was given to me for a birthday present. I also have a couple of my husband's duty weapons in the Springfield .45, and finally, a Chow .45.

Yes, the Chow is a Colt, Series 70 -- definitely better than my Les Baer, but only because Uncle Bob is no longer with us

Try replacing the long factory trigger with a short one, total cost is under $30 and it makes a huge difference. My daughter's (19) favorite gun is a Springfield loaded with a short trigger, FO sights, and VZ grips. She loves the accuracy and the recoil is pretty mild with my IPSC loads (200gr SWC over 5.2gr Bullseye).

Please don't hate on me for carrying a Taurus but I do regularly carry the PT 1911 and love it. Never had any issues with it. You get alot of bang for the buck.
