Do you currently have or are you considering getting a CCW permit? Do you have concerns about the application/approval process? A few of my girlfriends and I were discussing it and it seems very invasive! What do you think???

do not have nor am I considering applying.
this Santa Cruz County is notorious for not granting and I just cannot see going through the process only to be denied....and yes I think it is a tad invasive."The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

Pretty much echoing what movie zombie said. If my county was "shall issue" I'd go for it, but Alameda County is one of the most firearms-phobic in CA (we can't even buy ammo at WAL-Mart -not that they have any!), so I see no point in paying to wade through a process that has "DENIED" built into it.Comment

It is unfortunate and most likely that I won't even apply for it. I'm in LA County and from what I've read, it is nearly impossible to get one.

I hear you! It's a shame that anything firearms-related has become so heavily regulated!Pretty much echoing what movie zombie said. A note from your doctor! Wow!
On the other hand, I consider you very lucky to have received one!

My wife got hers. It's not as invasive as a trip to the OBGYN. Makes her happy because she no longer feels she has to be afraid. And she's a great shot. Better than 95% if the men I know, including me.Only slaves don't need guns

Just to be perfectly clear, I meant "invasive" in the sense of an action or sensation (tending to intrude on a person's thoughts or privacy) NOT in the medical sense of the word.NRA PATRON LIFE MEMBERComment

invasive is all in the mind of the experiencer. personally, I'd rather go to the GYN than go to the dentist......."The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

No one should ever out themselves as having a carry license. Ever. The point of carrying concealed is that no one knows you have a gun on you.
That said, I'd be thrilled to open carry, if I was allowed to.
Since the carry process in California is dictated by the County Sheriffs, it varies wildly, from impossible to no-big-thing. I think the DOJ background check is universal and it pays to check it yourself before applying to the Sheriff. Any number of Calgunners have been denied due to teenaged screw ups and old domestic complaints.
I actually know people who have purposefully moved, to live in a county with a sympathetic Sheriff. Generally speaking, the more rural the county, the easier it gets.
People get excited by the background checks, but I just shrugged. I have a California drivers license, they have a thumbprint. I buy ammo in Sacramento City, they have thumbprints. I worked in the banking business, FBI got one full set of prints plus background check. I was a military wife, another set of prints. I had a nuclear security clearance, another set of prints. By the fourth or fifth set, who cares? They KNOW who I am. (And in the back of my mind, I was daring the Sheriff to deny someone with a nuclear security clearance.)
At the end of the day, it all depends on how bad you want it. If you want it bad enough, you jump through any and all hoops they require, just to get the certificate. (Come to think about it, it's just like college...)
But if you start the process, don't flash it around. You might be denied and then you'll be embarrassed. Or you might succeed, and your girlfriends might out you in a restaurant. That actually happened to one of our Women's Forum pals. The consequences of being outed range from being ejected from a place of business to having your permit lifted because you weren't "concealed" enough.
So, don't worry about 'invasive'. Worry about whether you can actually bring yourself to blow the arm off another human being. And then maybe face his mother in the supermarket. If you don't think you can really shoot down another human being and live with that your whole life, you shouldn't carry.WHAT I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR, MOSTLY THE HARD WAY

Been there, done that at way too young an age, twice. There were other complications in one situation that made it even worse. No matter how many times I was told it was the right thing to do or how I saved the lives of others, or worse yet, how I was a hero, it did not help.
It is now 40 years in the past and I am finally at peace with it. I started getting psychiatric help 20 years ago. It has not been easy. I still wish I would have never been put in that situation but I cannot undo what has been done.
If you know you absolutely cannot pull the trigger and take the life of another human being, no matter what that person is doing to you, then you need to find another way of self-defense. I did martial arts for a long time, until physical issues made that impossible.Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.
A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.
Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?
