Need Help Ladies

So for my 6th anniversary I am taking my wife horseback ridding and i bought her a Ruger Vaquero. I also want to purchase a belt and holster online but it is difficult to figure out what size. Most descriptions talk about pant sizes (mens pant sizes) and waist measurements, but not sure how to convert to a womens size.
She is 5'3" and wears a size 12 but will drop down to a 10 (We just had a baby and she has been loosing pregnancy weight). I want to get her a belt that fits her now but will also fit her when she is down to a size 10 again. I seen one for sale on Ebay that said would work for pant sizes 32-38. Not sure what size 10-12 on my wife transfers to in men sizes???????? Is this too big???? too small of a holster???? The last thing i want to do is get her something too small.
I need some guidance.

more importantly does she have the right footwear? with horses footwear can save you from broken toes or even your life entirely.

is this a public place? showing up with a pistol on her side may not be acceptable. what is her experience riding horses? if very little then i do not advise extra accoutrements.

if she is novice, and/or the place is public, save your cowgirl fantasies for the bedroom afterwards and avoid making her look like a putz because you decided to dress her up (chicks dont normally appreciate that).

The holster and gun is not for the horse ride. I boufgt her the gun for shooting and want to get her a nice holster to put it in when we are out shooting. Sorry I did not make that clear, and thanks for your concern.

Im not tripping. I know she meant well. But for the record I am getting my wife all this because its her thing. Not mine. My wife is a second generation Mexican American and both her grandparents were from Guana Juato Mexico and her family that is still there live in a ranch. She loves visiting and loves the culture. She enjoys shooting and prefers revolvers. She been hinting lately that she wanted to go horseback ridding lately. Just trying to be a good and thoughtful husband. I want to make this anniversary special. I am from the Bronx NY. No cowgirl fantasies here. More of a nurse guy....lol. and yes she has good boots. Cowgirl boots and Timberland boots.

Actually, its quite simple.

Just let her know that you intend to give her a holster for her Ruger, but she has to select the style and maker.

Since she has family in Mexico, which is famous for having some of the best leather-workers in the world, her family will know which leather-worker to select for the project, and she may select the style for her own preference.

She may have a preference for a particular variety of style, colour, tooling, etc., which could relate to traditional preferences within her family.

You would feel awfully embarrassed if you bought her what you think is a best quality holster, but would not be the type or colour of leather which would be 'right' for her, not to mention holster fitting, such as 'drop' and 'angularity' and a preference from among the various styles of holsters (and there are many styles, particularly for the single action.....each of which was 'right' for the person who designed it.

You wouldn't want her to have a 'movie quick draw' rig, if what might be more to her preference might be a cross-draw, just for example.

This is something you can't select on her behalf........explain this to her, and tell her that you want 'the best' for her.

Fair warning..........what she prefers may be something you'd consider 'ugly'.......or 'not your taste'......if so, be nice about it......its hers, after all.

(and I'm no help......on the rare occasions when I feel I should be armed with a pistol, I carry the 1911A1 in a standard, regulation Army shoulder holster, or the regulation 'sidearm rig', issue pistol belt and holster)

Thanks Carla. That might be the safe bet. Her parents just came back from there. Wish i would of thought of this earlier. I wanted everything to be a surprise but it might be smarter to let her pick stuff out. The gun i got i know she will love because she has told me what she liked and wanted ( she will also love the fact that there are so many options on customizing the grips.). But might need to fall back on the holster. Was just hoping to present it to her on the special day but the horseback ridding and the Ruger should be enough.

and as usual Carla nailed it.
there is more to a belt and holster for both men and women than waist size.
and I so love the idea that she has family in Mexico and perhaps access to something very personal and one of a kind!

Chickshooter does not mince words and I have come to appreciate her posts.

She has one thing right, foot wear is the most important thing when it comes to being around horses. The everyday sneakers are just plain dangerous in so many ways. Just because they are labelled "cowboy" does not mean they are for riding. They may just be made for looks.

I was one of those weird teen boys, I preferred horses to motorcycles. I actually still do.

getting one's foot caught in a stirrup is very Very VERY dangerous......
cowboy/girl boots are designed to fit the stirrup and get out of it.
I actually used to have my "working" boots and my "dress" boots.......
but that was in another life time!

I was lucky enough to try on a variety of belts and holsters at SHOT Show this year and there is definitely a range in terms of style and comfort. It might be best to let her know you want to get her a belt and holster and take her out shopping for the best fit for her. If you don't have stores near by to try them on, let her do some online research to see what she wants to get.
