    Why do Women Do That?

Ladies, I come to thee for enlightenment on a subject of interest to many men who own and shoot.

Last month I picked up a new toy. As I was fondling it during the customary Federal 4473 check, a gentleman at the counter was observing my new purchase. He looked at my new handgun as if it were the keys to a new Bentley; a mixture of sadness and jealousy clouded his eyes as his lady friend snapped with the precision of a Marine Drill Sergeant "Don't even THINK ABOUT it".

The comments force took me aback. I felt even guiltier then usual, as I now had to consider this poor man's suffering on top of the mental acknowledgement that even though I would leave the store 10 minutes later with my purchase, Californians are still waiting for guns they bought last week.

The last woman I dated who tried to limit my gun purchases I jettisoned not long after her comments. I'm of the mind that I wouldn't have any standing or motivation to decree to any woman that she's limited to one pair of shoes per month ,so why do women feel the need to block or obstruct their men's purchase of firearms?
The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.

The 1911 may have been in wars for 100 years, but Masetro Bartolomeo Beretta was arming the world 400 years before John Browning was ever a wet dream.

Actually I get the same response from my husband. A lot. He is the smart one budgetwise. It's not a gender question.

I also read posts about men lying to their women about buying firearms and the prices/money involved. I'm a woman who has to sigh and say "Just admit the price; they find out anyway."

Being a woman, I can't answer that either. If you wanted to buy a gun a month it would be fine with me, finances allowing, as long as I could buy one too!

Because they have the puki. If you don't obey, you won't be able to get at it for a long time! At least until you do something monumental for them.

          (Sorry ladies, no offense.)

THIS!^^^^^ It is not just a woman thing. Then again, I was also the person who bought more motorcycles in 5yrs of riding than my husband had in 25yrs of riding. LOL What can I say, when a short woman finds a sportbike short enough to tiptoe/flat-foot then it MUST be bought!

I have a long and unpopular answer for this, but I'll just shorten it to say that I've met many a selfish, bossy, hypocritical American woman in my 3 decades. She can treat him with no respect but he better never treat her that way - you know the scenario....

I think it's a question of "the pact"

I know that I can do whatever I want, she'll always be patient with me. But because I know that and I know she'll always be patient then I try harder to be considerate and thoughtful of her. She does the same thing. So we both end up being extra thoughtful and extra patient because we know that we don't have to be.

                vs

I know that I'm going to get yelled at no matter what I do so I'm going to do what I want. She knows that I'm going to do whatever I want regardless of her feelings on the subject so she's going to yell at me because I'm not being thoughtful of her. So we both end up yelling at each other and doing whatever the hell we want because we know that "nothing we do will avoid it."

If you're dating a someone, woman or man (not married, not living in) she/he has no say in how you spend your money.

If you're living in or married, and pooling income and expenses, your SO has a say in how the joint money gets spent. Everyone should have an allowance monthly for personal items like clothes, shoes, guns, ammo etc. If you're using your allowance to save up for a new gun, the SO ought to be silent.

If you can't make the rent, no one should be buying goodies.

This is not about women, particularly. I've had a husband and misc SO's who had something to say about how money was spent. If they're working and contributing, they have some rights here.

But, in one famous incident, the handsome hubby desperately needed a pool table, I don't play pool. He got it but was off the air about shoes, etc for about 18 months....

men do it, women do it. its one of those equal opportunity things, Silver.

and BonnieB pretty much sums it up for me re how household/couple finances can and should work.
"The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

I had an EX who tried to do me the same way. I was paying ALL the bills, and he had the nerve to try telling me not to buy a purse and some jewelry one day. I just told him I didn't want to hear it, and bought 2 purses!

Lone Wolfe is my other hero(ine). Yayy.

My father ran a household where the one who earned the money said how it was spent. He got a real shock when I got a part time job at 14, and turned his logic back on him and spent it as I liked. Interestingly enough, my mother got a job pretty quickly after that and bought a Mustang convertible (runs in the family...) with her OWN money. Dad was furious but couldn't do a thing. "Hoist by one's own petard" so to speak.
