    Rental suggestions

I own an HK and LOVE it to death and find it to be the best fit for me personally. I'm still fairly new to the firearms world so I don't know enough about weight and sizes of all brands and models. Basically I'm looking for other brands that have the same "feel" of the HK's. I just came back from the range and tested out the Glock 17 3rd generation. I did not like the feel of it at all. So I was wondering if any of you could provide other suggestions of brands/models that have a familiar feel to the HKs. Anything would be helpful. Hope everyone got to start their weekend off at the range.

    Suggestions.

You haven't identified what part of California you are in, that helps alot with reccomendations for rentals because people can help direct you to places where you can rent.

A big determining factor is your hand size, if a gun doesn't fit your hand, does it matter what gun it is?

Many newer handguns are coming with adjustable backstraps. I would suggest trying the S&W M&P pistols.

    Also try a Colt 45

Your local rental gun range should allow you to take a look at several and hold them to see how they fit your hand. That is the best way to start is just see if you can hold the pistol correctly. Have them run through how it operates and try it yourself to see if it is easy for you.

Glock 17 is the larger framed model, you might want to also try holding a 19 as it is a bit more compact (I highly prefer it over the 17).

But there are many choices and you need to find what works for you. I have a friend who I taught to shoot and she goes on and on about how much she loves Glocks. But I keep pointing out that she has never tried anything else so how would she really know. She finally agreed to go to the range and give a few other brands a try to see what else is out there. It's just like shoes, there is not a "one size fits all" nor does everyone like the same style. Everyone is going to be subjective on what they like, so go figure it out for yourself and in the end you will be happier.

I live in the Bay Area, but I have no problem with going to areas in the South Bay to test things out as well. The thing is I'm helping my friend pick out a pistol. She wanted me to help her by having a few models for her to choose from. She doesn't plan to shoot all the time so spending a large amount of money on an HK doesn't make sense. I'm not trying to make excuses for her to not test them out herself but since she travels about 3 weeks out of a month due to work she doesn't always have the time. Plus I don't mind since it helps me to test out other brands as well. When I say stock size doesn't matter it really doesn't since her hands are bigger than mine. And I don't mind shooting with a full size stock or compact. Which is why stock doesn't matter in this case since it's not for me. I'm just seeing if people can break down the search by helping to provide models that are more recommended that are close to the weight or feel of HKs (but not in the $900+ range). Thanks for the tips thus far.
