Smith and Wesson 686 4'' or 6'' barrel?

Hey everyone, I posted this in the General Gun Discussion and my GF wanted me to repost it in the Ladies Forum.

She is thinking about getting the Smith and Wesson 686 4 inch barrel. She would be shooting 38sp in it. I think that once she gets used to shooting 38sp she may want to jump up to .357, when/if that happens I feel she would want to have the 6 inch barrel.

We plan on going to the range soon, but money is a little tight.

    Which would you prefer?

Could split the difference and get it in 5 inch? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=239105622

Shorter is a little quicker to handle and 3.8 oz. lighter, 6" has a longer sight radius. That's about it. I'm sure she'll be happy with either.

If it'll be her 686, she should get what feels good in her hand, and it sounds like she wants a 4". It's a good all-purpose size and a gunsmith can improve the 686 trigger pull. If she decides she would rather get a 6" later, she can always sell or trade (or get both!)

In .357 revolvers, I have both 6" and 3" barrels. One of the 3" barrels is ported.

          I own both, one 686 4 inch and two 686 6 inch.
          I prefer shooting my 686 4 inch.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think she might be buying the 4'' today from the Turners that just opened up down here.
