Hello!
I recently picked up a Ruger LC9, and I thought I would share my thoughts with everyone about my experience with it. First of all, I would like to make the disclaimer that I am NOT an experienced semi-auto shooter. I grew up shooting shotguns and revolvers, and I am relatively new to semi-autos. I prefer a double action trigger (I realize this may raise a few eyebrows, but it's what I learned on, so I'm just used to it.) and this gun appealed to me as a good compact, light weight 9mm.
I did not find the kick to be bad at all. I shot over 150 rounds through it today, using AE 124gr ball ammo, 124gr Hydra Shok, and 124gr HST, and though my hand was a little fatigued by the end of the day, the kick of the gun itself is quite manageable. Is it snappy? Yes, particularly in comparison to the SP-101 I was shooting with target loads, but in judging the gun for itself and not comparing it to the others, the kick wasn't bad.
As for the trigger pull, it is a double action pull and was what I would expect from a double action pull...long. It felt consistent throughout the length of the pull, in my opinion, and I didn't find it to be excessively long. If a single action pull were my preference, then I probably wouldn't like it, but again, in judging the gun for what it is, a double action trigger, I liked it.
I was able to shoot well with it, though being a new semi-auto shooter, I feel I have lots of room for improvement. I had better groupings with the Sig 229 that I also shot today (which has a DAK trigger), but I think that with a little more time with it I can get better with the LC9.
I think that covers everything...hope this is helpful to anyone shopping for a compact 9mm.
Cheers!
