    I've Been Bad

I posted a video up in handguns that I thought would be helpful to shooters and than it occurred to me that not all the ladies here want to wade through some of the stuff that goes on there. Plus I've found that female shooters actually benefit more from instruction than male shooter...because they aren't handicapped by the same preconceived ideas about shooting.

This isn't an instructional video about grip, it is just a short clip about a misconception about accurate shooting. I've taught with Jerry, we both come from the same training tree...so feel free to ask questions as they occur to you.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see him use the joint instead of the pad of his finger.

Oh well, old habits die hard in Bullseye though

What's the distance he's shooting from?

We tell him he has little squirrel hands. I seem to remember him usually using the pad on the trigger...i think he uses the joint as an index on the side of the trigger.

I was waiting for you to chime in about a hard grip...I seem to remember that old NRA shooters were always going on and on about locking up their grip to steady the gun. It is only funny because an Olympic told me she barely griped to gun at all...of course it was only a .22 free pistol.

I don't know how far away he was from the target...I wasn't there, it looks like KY or AL

Nah, I'm in total agreement with over-gripping/over-holding a pistol theory. We say the same thing in Bullseye if the groups are going horizontally instead of vertically -- either too much thumb or too much pinky -- and not keeping the gun snuggly in the V of the hand. Of course, that's holding the pistol with one hand, so we don't have as many choices as you Action Pistol guys

I had to smile at the Free Pistol reference. A sadist created that discipline - lol. Most of the guys have a 70 gram trigger on their Free Pistols... mine is heavy at 100. Compared to a 1911, yes, I guess you can say we're not really gripping the Free Pistol.

I much prefer teaching females than males to shoot. Much easier without having macho ill concieved notions that they know about guns and shooting just because they born a male. And easier to teach w/o having bad habits and ideas already ingrained.

he only takes 4-5 steps to the target so he's fairly close.

he's specifically addressing glocks: think this is also good info for a 1911?

The same principles apply, you can actually hold a 1911 in a more relaxed grip.

I've seen more jerking of the trigger with a 1911 than other pistols...the short trigger travel really tempts you to snap the trigger when the sights are on

while at the range last week i practiced both with my revolvers and my semi-s doing a slow trigger pull as well as having more finger [read to the joint] on the trigger. i had not been to the range in almost 2 years [] but found i was actually shooting better [meaning more centered and in the center]! my hands were particularly shaky that day and i found that a firm but relaxed grip seemed to keep the shaking at a minimum. then i watched the video this week.......... i'm going to keep trying this!

brought the targets home for hubby to see.....and he was actually impressed with the obvious improvement even though i hadn't been to the range in 23 months.....

thanks to the OP for the video and thanks 9mm for more confirmation.
