How long does it take to clean your guns?

Just wondering how long it takes everyone to clean their handguns and/or rifles. I find that it takes me a while to clean the AR-15 because it is larger and has more parts to it. I got a good process for cleaning my handgun now though so I am able to clean that pretty quickly.

I justed want to know because some guy at this indoor shooting range I go to said that cleaning the AR is easy and doesn't take any longer than a semi-auto handgun. I don't know about anyone else, but I like to clean my guns good as I paid a lot of money for them and I want to keep them as nice as possible. Plus, I don't want anything jamming or failing from lack of maintenance if SHTF.

Consider yourself lucky. Modern rifles pop apart with the push of a button and clean very easily next to the older stuff. My BAR takes the better part of a full hour or more to clean properly. Not to mention the need for screwdriver(s) and a pair of pliers.

However, I can do my AR or HK 93 in about 15-20 minutes. (gunscrubber and/or carburetor cleaner does wonders)

It really depends on your definition of "clean". To me a clean AR is...

Field strip, spray CLP all over the BCG and inside the barrel, scrub with brush, wipe off, run boresnake through the barrel, reassemble, done. 5 minutes.

Wow, an hour is a long time.
Currently, it takes me about 30-40 minutes to clean my AR. I have only owned it for a few months though so I guess once I have cleaned it more I will get more proficient at it

        Gunscrubber?

          Wow that is fast!

To me, clean is cleaning EVERYTHING. I guess that is just me though. For me personally, I like cleaning my guns. So I guess I like to take my time.

            Quality over quantity

The time it takes me depends on what match and which guns. I won't even mention the shotgun - lol

If it's a 3-gun match, well, that's three semi-autos I need to break down. I hate cleaning guns (hence the loving spouse who's man enough to do it for me!), but I hate losing points during a match/calling an alibi more, so stuff has to be done NOT half-@@@.

If it's the air or Free Pistol, no problem. Just run a cleaning pellet/brush through. I wish everything were so simple!

I'm addicted to the smell of hoppes. I can easily clean my glock for and hour... Prepping, checking, cleaning every little part... But then I do probably go a few hundred rounds in between deep cleanings... That's the lazy me.

I definitely agree with you on quality over quantity!

My fiancee doesn't like cleaning guns.....I think the military made him despise it since they made them clean their guns for hours and hours lol

Too funny! When the ingredients of powder were different (showing my age - yikes!) I used to think cordite floating around the air was cool!
