Female self defense ..pepper spray or taser/

    hey guys
my friend asked me see what you ladies thought when it comes to self defense...

he just moved his company into a shady part of town, and he has a lot of young college female grads working for him (it's a fashion/clothing company).

he wants them to be safe so he wanted to see if buying them pepper spray or tasers are more effective....

    guns are not an option.

    waht do you ladies think?

I am not a lady... but I do get called the B word alot when playing Modern Warfare 2....

I say chemical is better. Tazers have to either be fired once, or at very close range. What about multiple attackers or when the probes miss?

Chemical can be sprayed, stop, sprayed, stop, sprayed... et cetera. Multiple attackers, or failure to stop, chemical is better.

By far, the best asset to a woman with regards to self defense is situational awareness. That is by far the best defense.

Pepper spray will work if you miss your target and you have a second and third shot in the container.

I say Taser. It only takes less then a second to switch out the cartridge. But then again, having pepper pepper spray is less maintenance and affordable. So I would say why not get both.

I say taser. They make a real "stylish" one for the ladies to carry as well. OR....like stphman20 said....get both. I would just use the taser first. Keep the spray as backup. Also, you might tell him to look into the legal aspect of him purchasing these for the girls. If one of the girls misuses them, will he be held accountable and can the victim come after his business. Im not a lawyer, but I would consider that when deciding.

            Kinda pricey, but works.

Are you really meaning Taser or just a stun gun?

                  Not a lady.

Pepper spray. You don't have to be in contact with an attacker, and you can spray it everywhere rather than having to make it count the first time.

                    Not a lady.

I got maced asking a woman for the time once. It hurt, but wouldn't have stopped me from doing anything...

of course, I have no idea what sort of mace I was hit with, and they come in all sorts of flavors. Just thought I'd throw that out there...

I am female, but with my luck, the wind would be blowing in the wrong direction for me.

As one of the posters stated, knowing your environment is a prudent suggestion. Are these gals allowed to work in pairs?

Have you ever used pepper spray?

It is a stream of fluid similar to a super soaker squirt gun. While secondary contact WILL happen, wind or not, it is much more manageable than the guy getting sprayed.

Pepper spray can also be used against animals.

                          Sure.

I was responding to the OP's original question.

They make various types of pepper spray. One type is the "fogger" where you point and shoot and a "foggy mist" comes out and is supposed to cover an entire hallway within 25 ft. Wind will definitely play a role on this type if outside.

I have also been on the "oops" side of the wind while trying to take somebody into custody with the "super soaker type" and it's not fun. It does happen and alot more than you think. I can tell you that I know of plenty of individuals that did not "react" to the stuff and if a female is relying on it to bring somebody down, it might not work. Just another .02 cents.

I would say pepper spray. I have heard the "Fox" brand is pretty harsh...

And unless something is being left out, since this guy is your friend, I would suggest to him to change his zero tolerance policy regarding firearms. That's just setting his employees up for disaster.
