    My Girl, My .45

Greetings to all you beautiful, intelligent & gracious ladies.

    Please forgive my (male) intrusion...
but I just I have to brag on my wife, since she doesn't post on CalGuns.

We went out on her first shooting trip, in nearly 14 years.

After watching me put about 100 rounds, downrange and chatting around with the other shooters... She finally worked up the courage to try the .45 (SIG Sauer P220R).

She did fine! A little low & left, but every one a respectable C.O.M. shot. Then she wanted to shoot another mag... let she let me shoot a few... then she wanted to shoot another. She shot standing, seated & seated w/ handrest. (All 2 handers). All told, she has about 50 rounds of 230gr .45 under her belt.

She's now very comfortable with it, but is still very interested in trying .40S&W and 9mm... before making a decision on her primary handgun. Even though she had a blast and says she really enjoyed spending the day with me at the range (awww) she's also interested in meeting up with other like-minded gals.

My girl... I'm glad she's on my side

Congrats on your trip to the range.

Your next assignment: get her registered on here. She can meet Lady Calgunners at the Vallejo and Cow Palace shows coming up in a few days. We'll talk shooting with her while you go shop

Thanks. She did finally sign up for Calguns (as Mrs Osokne) and told me this morning that she was awaiting her confirmation email. Our schedules are a bit wacky at times, so we're not able to make it to too many shows, but we try.

Great -- looking forward to another local gal to share range stories with. Our shooting times usually only last about an hour (unless I'm in a match) and then we all head out for coffee/lunch. The husbands think this is a convenient way to practice too since they know they're going to get fed at the end of the session

                Welcome, Mrs. Osokne!

Mr. Osokne gets brownie points for bragging about you AND getting you registered I think all our Better Halves should get credit for supporting us in our shooting.

Thanks for the warm welcome! You reading this honey? You get brownie points....lol
I have to admit, I was little nervous shooting the first time in soooo long. And a .45 at that. What the heck was I thinking? I have to tell you though, by the end of the day, I was covered in that fine black powder, I had a sore wrist and my ears were ringing. It wasn't long before I asked when we could go again! As my honey said, I still want to try some other handguns in different calibars(sp? lol) before making my decision on my own handgun. I have a feeling I will end up with a 9mm.
Ladies, what was your first handgun and why did you chose it? I feel that if have some idea of you have been through, it might make it a little less daunting in chosing my own.
                  Thanks again for the welcome

                    Yay welcome!

And props to our honeys for supporting (as mine always says) "gun fever".

I didn't really choose my first gun. I was presented with a good opportunity/deal and took it. I have a glock 27 (40 caliber subcompact) - not recommended for a first gun but what did I know then. Thank god for CGN though as I was able to learn properly early so I incorporate that into my shooting (always learning!) and I love it.

As my Better Half would say, "You are a trooper!"

My very first gun was a Ruger Mark II in the .22. It sucked because the front sight would spin (and I didn't know this,) so I sucked too at hitting paper - lol

Then, I tried a S&W Model 66 in the .38. Most men on here will tell you that they have such a revolver or a similar one where you have the option of shooting .357 rounds out of it, but for practical reasons, I run .38 special wadcutters through it. Less recoil, more control, smoother sight picture. Back then, suddenly life became good, and I was killing paper -- yeehaw!

From 25 yards, I wondered what it would be like to go 50 yards, and I tell you, hearing the guys "ping" the steel gong at 100 yards made me want to do that too! Of course, you need a rifle for 100 yards, so that's an entirely different story for another time!

That's how I got into the obsession with 1911s in the .45. Knocking down bowling pins is hysterically funny -- especially the way I did it the first time. You're timed on speed and accuracy. This is when I used to shoot with two hands, but after being in Bullseye for over 20 years, I now shoot everything offhand. Anyhow, the guys were killing the pins. I had never held a .45, but figured, how hard could it be, right? Well, I knocked all the pins down because I shot out one of the legs in the table with a full magazine. (Still didn't quite understand sight picture and squeeze back then - lol)

The 1911 is slim compared to some of the other centerfire pistols on the market. I like that feature since I shoot with one hand and need a grip that I can hold consistently for all stages of a match. Back then, the range master told me very gently that no woman could ever learn to shoot a .45 well and not to be disappointed that I would never achieve my goal.

                      I should not buy a 1911.

I think you know what happens when a man tells a woman "no," right?

When you're bored, Google Ruby Fox. You can read if she sucks at shooting .45 or not - lol

If you haven't tried them yet, use the paste-on stickers where they glow green after they've been shot. Little kids are especially motivated when they can see where they're hitting the target. It even motivates the Big Kids like my poor husband - lol

He has earned a gazillion brownie points for going to the range with me, and I know it's tough when I have two matches back-to-back, but at least his fingers don't turn blue there. When I fished his tournament in Oroville one winter, I didn't think I could ever get my thumbs to work again

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.
