    Handgun course while pregnant?

    Hi
My wife will be approx 33 days pregnant when she is scheduled to take a Front Sight 4 Day Defensive handgun course with a 22lr pistol and CCI Mini-Mag. The round count is 650-700 rounds over 4 days. Anybody have any experience with shooting while newly pregnant?

No experience, but the first trimester is when the fetus is most susceptible. Why not wait 8 more months rather than suffer a lifetime of worry or agony? Let’s say the kid has learning disability or medical conditions later, will you ever think about that 4 day course she took a few years earlier? There will be a bunch of other people shooting upwind from her too.

I wouldn’t. She can always go later.

      Bad idea.

Do you really have to ask why?
My mother always told me to be careful what you ask for.

Just one more piece of parental advice I stupidly ignored.

Two obvious aspects: lead exposure and gunshot noise.

        Lead -

In part 2 of "Reducing Lead Exposure from Firearms", we go over research data and give you 15 tips for reducing lead exposure from firearms.

        Noise -

Teaching the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude to operate firearms safely.

        Lots more out there.

Don’t. Take the course after your child is born.

Either have her wear a kn95 mask or wait till the baby is born ( waiting would be my choice) . No reason to give your baby any lead particles while they are developing. Wait till they crawl around and let them eat paint chips like everyone else. JK.

Better to be safe than sorry.
Just wait till after baby is born.

I stopped going to the range when my wife got pregnant. I still conceal carry but no trip to the range.

                    Just to be extra cautious.

I disagree here. Ever stick your head under water in a bathtub? Noise outside the bathtub is muffled like you’re wearing hearing protection. Noise inside the bathtub and below the water line, then the sound is slightly amplified. Target Shooting is “outside” of the womb.

I had previously been advised the lead contamination was the more major factor about shooting while pregnant. This was second hand information to me when I taught at a police academy, can’t vouch it’s 100% accurate.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I recall people recommending playing classical music to soothe a baby in the womb, and videos showing the fetus reacting to loud noises outside the womb. They were even recommending reading out loud to a baby still in the womb. That would certainly make the noise of gun shots an issue.

When my agency finds out about a female officer's pregnancy, the officer is immediately exempted from shooting qualifications.

When my wife was pregnant with our first son, she went to ranges with me and just watched me shooting and competing. She noticed the baby jumping occasionally when a gun is fired. That son is 32 years old now and became a successful man. He also shootsvery well.
