    Your first?

What was the first gun you ever bought? What age were you? What made you get a gun?

I'll answer for my wife who does not hang out on CG:

    Ruger SR-22

    She was "in her 50's".

She went shooting with her Texas relatives, had a great time and so we each bought a handgun for ourselves at Christmas that year.

First was a Spanish Army (don't recall the manufacture) 32 cal auto I bought from a biker when I was 16. First official was a Ruger MK I my dad gave me on my 18th bday.

After the first of the recent police shootings, and amid some earthquake warnings about 3 years ago, I decided I wanted to own a firearm, in case civil unrest broke down the community, particularly after a disaster. (I am in Los Angeles.)

I was mid-50's, a woman in Los Angeles.

I took a few lessons then asked my instructor to recommend a couple of choices. I decided on the Beretta FS 92 Brigadier (9mm) for my first. It looked nice, felt right and had excellent reviews. (I have always been a design snob, so design, history and appearance was important to me.) Months later, I bought the .22 conversion kit so I can practice more with cheaper ammo.

I have since bought a Sig p239 SAS (also a 9 mm), and a Sig p238. And I am now looking at a little mouse gun, a Seecamp.

i might try for a CCW but am not hopeful, as I am in Los Angeles County, and work there as well. My work has an outside chance of supporting my application, though not in the current climate...

        But a girl can dream...

Colt 1911 from ww2 dated 1943. Bought it when I was 21, from one of my cousins. Got rid of it a long time ago.

            Xd40 4" Nov 2015 (55)

A door to door saleman attempted to enter my house. He did not realize I was sitting in the front office & was watching his every move. He left when I confronted him through the open, solar screen darkened window.
I signed up for my CCW class that day, and bought a gun.

I actually bought several guns before I bought my 1st CCW designated gun, which is no longer in the planned rotation!
I have more than a few now...been buying as much as the state allows.

I knew nothing about guns but was newly divorced and wanted some protection. I went to a gun store about 25 years ago. At that time there was negligible marketing to women. I was fitted with a Taurus Revolver. I took one lesson and shot it a few times then in lived inside a briefcase till recently. Now there are some great women organizations and shooting clubs to join. So my second gun is a S&W 9mm Shield which I am trying to bond with. I never bonded with the Taurus so going to sell it. I am excited to learn so many new things and link up with some great people.

My girlfriend don't really post on here much...but she's a calguns member...she has a glock 26 and recently a ruger LCR .38...she took a W.O.T. training class too..at the age of 45.. She didn't get real serious until after the events in San Bernardino. She goes shooting once a month. As in ccw we live in la county so we're stuck...she said if this place would change she would be first in line...as well as many others... hopefully this new case...Flanagan vs. Harris..which deals with ccw in la county will be successful!!!

Like Garv, I'll answer for my wife too.

I bought her Snubby .38 = She hated it and didn't want to shoot it.
Then replaced it with Glock 19 = Shot it and hated it so she didn't want it.

Lesson learned and never meddled with her real First gun and subsequent ones. She picked Sig MK25, then Combat then P239s on and on.

The first gun that was 'mine' instead of being one of the 'house guns' at home was a Remington M12 .22 pump rifle which was a present. I was 10, then, and used the little Remmie with .22 shorts, mostly, to plink tin cans for amusement, and to bring in quail and pheasants for dinner. (I wasn't at all 'sporting' about that......putting out chicken mash in various places near hidey spots.....which I later learned were called 'sniper hides'.)

The first gun I bought for myself was a Winchester M63, semi-auto .22 rifle. The local hardware store owner had one which was still in 'like-new' condition, which he'd taken on a trade-in. It had gotten a coating of dust on the store shelf, cos no one wanted it, so he 'gave me a good deal' on it, at $25, which was a tremendous amount of carefully saved-up $, at the time.

The M63 had to run on the more expensive full-charge long rifle .22 rounds, but was balanced differently, and was so much nicer to handle than the pump Remmie, particularly for moving targets.

                        cheers

                        Carla

Sig Sauer SP2022... I was 35 and my house had been broken into. It was 8:30am and I was gone less than 25 min taking my daughter to school. I went that same day to Turner's and bought my Sig 9mm.
