My question is how can you include a full size ruger and not include a Glock or S&W? Realistically I don't think any full size pistol should be in this. I carry a M&P 9c and my G19 which I carry for work and my M&P 9 Pro 5" shoot softer then my 9c. This article should have focused on pocket pistols and revolvers with actual data.

Over penetration in not a problem. A miss is a problem.

the 9mm revolver looks interesting to me........some may argue that 6 rounds isn't enough but the caliber is good for self-defense.

more re that 9mm revolver: http://www.americanrifleman.org/arti...bull-revolver/
5 0r 6 shots may or may not be enough but then if you need more than 5 or 6 you may be in bigger trouble than first thought. the compact pistol isn't a fighting arm it is more of a last choice of defense method. Early this year I went to a bug gun match. I have seen the people shoot with their full size pistols and revolvers in matches with great skill but seeing them shooting subcompact semis and J frame size revolvers and doing reloads was surprising how "fiddly" the smalls guns were to handle. The self defense pistol will be almost always used in an up close and personal contact distance. Revolvers work best in body contact scenarios.

I agree, Sunday, and that is exactly why I have a J-frame model 60.........up close and personal self-defense is about all that can be justified in this county for a defense argument in court.

if I need more than 5 shots I am very much in BIG trouble. the argument by the semi-auto crowd is that 5-6 shots is not enough and I was merely giving them a nod

There are instances where a semi with more capacity would be better but I carry a J frame and have a semi on my permit as well. In a battle a semi high cap and full size pistol would be better but most all self defense shootings usually aren't battles.

sigh: CCW in this county is just going to happen for me. sigh.

and, you know, you make a good point: self-defense shootings usually aren't battles. I think many would do well to remember that!

Don't be so sure. The unanimous ruling by the Supreme Court this week overturning an Massachusetts Supreme Court decision on Stun guns and citing Heller and others may impact whatever the 9th Circuit is thinking in our case.

After the strong rebuke the Supreme Court gave the lower court this could be interesting. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...supreme-court/
