    Sonoma County Ladies

Hi Gals, My name is Anna, im 24 and I recently moved here from Colorado. I live up in sonoma county. Honestly wish I didn't move from Colorado as it was a lot easier to be a gun nut in Colorado then it is here. I am a little bit of a rare bird or so I think. I don't like handguns(my hands are too small... They didn't fit the glock 19 I owned in Colorado. I don't own any guns anymore. Sold them before I left. But dislike for handguns doesn't at all mean that I can't use one in a pinch.) but I love rifles.

Wonder if anyone wants to make a meetup and go shoot sometime at one of the local ranges? I'd be all for it.

I have a dilemma that I was hoping someone might have some insight for. I want to get a .22 here in California so I can shoot up some paper targets and tin cans, general plinking. A chiappa little badger or the like, a single shot or bolt action. But I am a student and am trying to keep from having to get a California drivers license until my colorado car registration expires in november. Will I just have to wait till then to get a new noisy toy? Advice?

    Hi, Anna and welcome.

You should probably check out the Calguns Wine Country Chapter Forum http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=305

They may have events you could attend. Also, Steyrlp10 is a Calguns woman active in that area who could probably tell you what's happening. PM her, I don't think she reads the Women's Forum that regularly

I don't think you have to have a CA drivers license to buy a gun in California, plenty of people have guns who don't drive. but you do have to show picture identification, like a passport, maybe a student id, and also proof of residence, like a utility bill or cable bill. Your local gun store can fill you in on that. You also have to pass a gun safety test which is 20 questions, multiple guess, if I remember correctly. They gave me a booklet to read, I sat in a corner and read it, then wrote the test and got my little card. You keep the card forever and bring it with you to buy a new gun each time.

Thank you! Will definitely do so. The route I am going currently is a CA ID, FSC, Hunting License and internet bill. Sound good to you?

A passport won't work purchasing a gun. My husband lost his license and was unable to DROS until he got a replacement. Why???? I can't tell you but, the FFL said it could not be used. You must have a PG&E bill or some other utility bill with your name on it.

Welcome Anna. This info is from the Office of the Attorney General and should help answer your question:

What identification is required for a person to purchase a firearm?
Firearms Dealers Links to Topics below General FAQs DROS Entry System (DES) Internet Process AB 1872/2165/2699 Dealer FAQs General FAQs What are California's licensing requirements for firearms dealers? How much is the annual Centralized List fee and when must it be paid? What is a California Firearms Dealer (CFD) number? Do I need to send copies of my dealer's Federal Firearms License and local firearms license(s) to DOJ? How is DROS information submitted? How do I get copies of the blank DROS worksheet? How can I correct or cancel a DROS submission?

Regarding your registration and driver's license, you are required to register your vehicle within 20 days of establishing California residency and you're required to get a CA driver's license within 10 days. If you're receiving in-state tuition for your college, then you've already established residency.

I understand what you're trying to do and why, and I hope you're successful. But realize that you are gambling about not getting caught. California is very hungry for money so they will squeeze you at any opportunity.

That said, there is nothing stopping you from getting a CA license but not re-registering your vehicle here at this time. One does not automatically require the other. In fact, since you have a valid out-of-state license, you only have to pass the CA written exam; they do not require you to take a driving exam. So no one from DMV will even know you have a car when you apply for your license.

Just got back from the DMV. All is good! Just have to wait for it to come in the mail. Hunting license Check! FSC has to wait till the license arrives.

Will an internet bill suffice for a utility bill?

What documentation is acceptable proof of residency for handgun purchasers?
Utility bill from within the past three months that bears on its face the individual's name and either of the following:
The individual's current residential address as declared on the DROS form; or
The individual's residential address as it appears on his or her California Driver License or California Identification Card, or change of address attachment thereto.
“Utility bill" means a statement of charges for providing service to the individual's residence by either a physical connection (i.e., hard wired Internet, telephone connection or cable connection, or a water or gas pipeline connection) or a telemetric connection (i.e., satellite television or radio broadcast service) to a non-mobile, fixed antenna reception device.

Residential lease that bears the individual's name and either of the following:
The individual's current residential address as declared on the DROS form; or
The individual's address as it appears on his or her California Driver License or California Identification Card, or change of address attachment thereto.
"Residential lease" means either of the following:
A signed and dated contract by which the individual (tenant) agrees to pay a specified monetary sum or provide other consideration for the right to occupy an abode for a specified period of time; or
A signed and dated rental agreement by which the individual (tenant) agrees to pay a specified monetary sum or provide other consideration at fixed intervals for the right to occupy an abode.
Property deed that bears the individual's name and either of the following:
The individual's current residential address as declared on the DROS form; or
The individual's address as it appears on his or her California Driver License or California Identification Card, or change of address attachment thereto.
"Property deed" means either or the following:
A valid deed of trust for the individual's property of current residence that identifies the individual as a grantee of the trust; or
A valid Certificate of Title issued by a licensed title insurance company that identifies the individual as a title holder to his or her property of current residence.
Current, government-issued license, permit, or registration, other than a California Driver License or California Identification Card, that has a specified expiration date or period of validity. The license, permit, or registration must bear the individual's name and either of the following:
The individual's current residential address as declared on the DROS form; or
The individual's address as it appears on his or her California Driver License, California Identification Card, or change of address attachment thereto.
Examples of acceptable proof of residency:

                Current DMV registrations.
Electricity, gas, cable bill with purchaser's name on it from within the last 3 months.
Signed, dated and notarized rental agreement/contract.
Examples of documents that are NOT acceptable proof of residency:

Hunting or fishing license (these documents are not issued by the government).
                Cellular phone bill.

An internet bill will suffice as a utility bill. That said, you do not need proof-of-residency (POR) to purchase a long arm; POR is only required for handgun purchases. In other words, you will only need a California Driver's License or California ID card to purchase your little "noisy toy."
