    Pepper Spray

Team, how many of you carry Pepper Spray?

If you carry pepper spray what brand?

If you carry how old is the can(s) you have?

Have viewed any of the pepper spray + self defense training videos?

If you take marshal arts training, has your instructor included pepper spray in your training?

If you don't carry pepper spray why not?

    Thanks

I've carried pepper spray since the days you had to take a class and be certified to be able to buy it! I've always been conscious of self-defense...

I recently bought the Sabre Brand at the local gun store; it expires in 2018. I'm sure there are a couple of canisters of way-past-use-date around here. Wasn't aware of SD training videos, but of course will check into them now.

Sabre offers a set of great free self defense video's that are worth watching. Additionally if you have out of date spray. Set up a target using a paper plate with eyes drawn in it, and use that old can as a practice round, at various distances. Great to get the experience of using it.

Also the video's will reveal common errors in employing pepper spray good stuff to know.

Oh yeah. Do a lot of walking and encountering two and for legged animals can be an issue.

        Fox Five Point Three

You can get practice versions too so you can get some trigger time.

Hell yeah, I carry it in the glove box.

But since I started doing that aggressive bums have all kept their distance.

Older cans can be used on plants to keep deer or squirrels from eating them (supposedly). I got a little blow back doing that. I figure that was better practice than using dummy cans, since real stuff is pretty cheap.

My night club bouncer friends say it doesn't work to break up drunken or even impassioned fights.

I recommend the stuff that includes the blue or green dye. That might put someone on LE radar even if you are rendered unable to. Can also be used to mark a fleeing vehicle for LE identification. Heck, I'd even use it to mark innocents in a pinch- Amber Alert: "BOLO for kids with GREEN blotching on SKIN and clothing".

Can't find the Green or Blue dye combo, just UV dye, which doesn't seem nearly as good since it requires LE to shine a UV light to ID. I'd want the Bad Guy to start thinking "I've just gotta bail out of this and go into hiding till the dye wears off in a few days" and I'd want a trail of bystander witnesses able to ID a Blue Man. I guess the UV could double as theft/foot print tracking.

2.5oz legal in CA for anyone. Larger legal for security with class, but only on duty. Any Security Guards need the class to carry any size on duty.

At under $20 and legal to use without risk of legal entanglement for Manslaughter etc, to me its a Can't Afford Not To Carry item.

I do carry it. Got a nice little clip so I can attach it to anything. I always have my gun on me, but one day I was walking my dog and had encounters with at least two aggressive dogs that left me unsettled. The one was pulling at its leash with so much strength it didn't look as if the elderly gentleman holding it back could last too much longer. I wondered what would I have done if it had broken free. I had my gun and my knife. Knife = not a good choice. That left the gun, and honestly, I REALLY don't want to have to draw my gun if there's any other choice. I decided pepper spray would be the ideal tool since it's probably very effective on an animal and also less legal involvement for me. I'd rather deploy pepper spray than a bullet from my Sig, thanks.

On a related note, my sister was at the dog park when a bully breed began to shred a small family puppy before the very eyes of the dad and two little girls. No one could free the puppy from its jaws, and so my sister did what she had heard would work: she rammed two fingers up the attacking dog's anus. Three times and she was unsuccessful. But you know what would have worked? Pepper spray. And I feel way more likely to encounter an aggressive dog than an aggressive human. I'll carry both so I'm prepared, but of the two things, I think I'd rather have my pepper spray than anything else. Because I feel odds are more likely that's the tool I'd need.

I also will carry a stun gun and knife.
I wouldn't put trust into just one method and CCW isn't an option yet.

Glock Girl what brand of spray.

Although you often hear people carry their pepper spray in the strong hand I disagree. I can have pepper spray in my weak hand, and actively on the spray trigger without brandishing. Sceario, someone comes up to me well I am fueling my car. They could be looking for direction, they could be asking for change, they could be looking to kick my butt. I am not afraid to ask what they want at a distance, and I am not afraid to tell them to stay where they are well ascertaining what they want. If they press or attack, I am going to have to defend with the weak hand anyway if I feel I have to draw. I don't want anything in my strong hand as it goes for my weapon. I can unleash a burst from the pepper spray, draw my weapon and move offline. If I am wrong bummer I sprayed the guy but at least I didn't shoot him. If he presses the attack through pepper spray, my justification just got stronger.

Nice part is if I use spray rather than my gun, I can still call CCW Safe and they will take care of my legal.

Pepper spray is effective against a range of animals. With the dry conditions everything from coyotes to bears are more intrusive / aggressive. Especially for the dogs and coyotes its very effective.

How many of you carry a canister on your key ring?

I carry Mace brand triple action pepper spray. I carry it most days when I walk my dogs. I have two smaller dogs can be viewed by larger dogs as prey. I had to use it once, several years ago on a dog that was very focused on my dogs. It was minimally effective, but it did work. The dog was circling us and extremely focused. I hit him several times straight in the eyes but, he was so focused on the dogs that it took several minutes for him to react and finally stopped to rub his face on bushes. We took off and escaped without injury to anyone but the loose dog. I hated using it on him but, it was necessary.

I had to throw the half empty container away after we had used it. Everyone got a bit of pepper spray blowback. Still better than the massive injury this small dog could have inflicted. Honestly, I think it would have stopped a human in his tracks. I know the small amount I got from handling the container was enough to cause me great discomfort.

I don't expect everything handed to me. Just set it down anywhere. Unknown

I have Sabre police grade. Got stellar reviews on Amazon, and then I happened across a video where women running a self-defense company tested different brands. They thought since the Sabre was so common, that it wouldn't be so great. Turns out, it out-performed all the other sprays they tried. Lasts long time and easy to operate.

One of the reasons its the brand I carry, although I respect Fox, and Mace.

I just find it hard to believe that some states ban it outright, some ban the UV component, others the CS tear gas component.

Thanks for the report. Cheaper to throw the half used canister away than a vet visit. Pretty sure that dog will think twice about doing that again, after the adrenalin wore off he was probably really hurting.
