I've kept a Swiss Army knife in the car because as noted above one never knows when one's path will cross a bottle of wine, hunk of cheese and some salami.....as well as all the other useful things one can do with a Swiss Army knife.

this one I purchased just for the sheer beauty of the thing....even hubby thinks it is well made. where I keep it and how I use it is yet to be determined but i'm sure I will enjoy it!

admittedly, it was stiff to open when I first tried.....and thus I know that the point is extremely sharp.........

MZ, if you figure out how to close it left handed, let me know. I'm baffled AND left handed.

It's funny about being a lefty. I won a bare-knuckle playground fight when I was 8, because the nasty little boy, who was bullying me, was watching my RIGHT hand. Never saw the left hook coming...

LOL, re that left hook, BonnieB!

I have not yet figured out how to open it with one hand using my right hand and i'm right handed!

        sigh.

and i'm so mechanically challenged that hubby had to show me how to close it....now i'm a pro at that but still not one handed.

        sigh sigh.

          Ok, here's how.

Hold the knife in your right hand, blade opening up, like this

Put your right index finger on the bumpy triangle that sticks out of the back of the knife ( the non-blade side) and push with your index, firmly. Keep your other hand out of the way at this time.

And Bam! Rainbow Blade! Be careful, it happens very fast. (Be careful, period....)

I want credit for the snazzy matching teal manicure. And also for being able to open a very sharp knife with one hand and take a picture, at the same time, with the other hand...

Hope this helps. I can make this work to open it left handed too, by putting my left thumb on the jeans-clip and pushing on the bumpy triangle with my left index. (Will someone tell me the technical name for the bumpy triangle? Yoshi?)

UPDATE: Someone PM'd me with the technical term for the bumpy triangle thingie! It's called a "blade protrusion". I thought it was a little non-intuitive, but whatever. Anything for precision of language...

But let's get real, I practiced for a week before I really got it right...

Grantar2, Bonnie and MZ, I do occasionally eat salami, receive letters which need to be opened, slice apples away from home and stab a chunk of cheese from a platter. Who knows if I'll ever need to slice someone's t-shirt off to make a bandage, but it's always good to be prepared.

Thereby I just ordered a Rainbow Leek. So I'll be ready for anything when the time comes.

it isn't like I don't have assorted other little knives around, things like bought at Renfaire, gun shows, etc......but this little one fits my hand like a dream. now to practice the one hand maneuver.

oh, and link for the lighter, BonnieB?! 'cause we girls just like to have fun....

eta: found new Zippo in box online at eBay and paid for it!
