    Deputy Sheriff Questions

Hey all, this seemed like as good a place as any to post this so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm seriously considering a career as a deputy sheriff in California (preferably Del Norte or Butte County) and was wondering if anyone had any insight on the matter. I'm 21 years old and have Certificates of achievement in business management and real estate from Butte College (I understand it doesn't really apply to the job but maybe it counts for something?) I know I will have to go through P.O.S.T. training but I was wondering what the job prospects usually are as far as how often they hire and what else I can do to "beef up" my resume and differentiate myself from other applicants. Any input/advice you may have would be much appreciated! Thanks!

You might want to see if the mods will move this to the LEO forum.
May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am

You'll find that a majority of the ones getting hired into an LEO position have prior military service.

Whenever you're ready, shoot me a PM, I have a guy up in the Bay Area that will go way out of his way to make sure you get taken care of. Cheers!

You may want to check with Sheriff's Offices south of the two Counties you have listed. They are real low on the pay scale. I am retired from an east bay SO and was making 3 times what those poor guys did.

The military might be a good resume builder for you. I did background investigations for a few years and a good military career was always helpful. You don't need to go into the military and just be an MP or SP. My Son is an Airborne infantry scout/sniper. The PD close to his base and the Secret Service are all over him trying to get him to go to work for them.
