    Sacramento County (non-specific)

TLDNR = Sac Co has at least 1400 unfilled positions (that's 10% of the workforce) and is hiring.

I've been involved in, and sometimes employed in, public service in CA for almost 40 years now (LE and Fire Labor Rep for 17 years, management hack for 16 years in an east bay city, and now I'm a "government advisor" with a JPA - Joint Powers Authority assiting govt employers). Anyway, I was in a meeting with the Sac Co Director over the Dept of Personnel Services and he mentioned the above.

Now, having represented employees in Sac CO a few decades ago, and living locally, I can tell you they are not the best employer culturally or in compensation, but they do have a plethora of cool jobs in many professions that could be a career or a stepping stone.

As of the writing of this reply, there are 139 positions listed per the Sac Co. jobs pages. I imagine several openings may exist for a given position, and I doubt Personnel Services will post all current jobs available. For my tax money and yours, they should be posting every single job within each job title (i.e. give each a code# even if the list is long, we want to see them all), the specific offices looking to fill (people need to weigh commute times), and a little more transparency/updating of job descriptions.

The Co. office I previously worked for (started as a temp when I moved here) experienced high turnover while I was employed. They failed to fully disclose all the expectations of the job, not providing employees sufficient time for meal/breaks, while raising performance quotas. I would not have accepted the job if the interview panel had given me full disclosure. I'm no longer there, but I might consider another department. 4 year-degree here and 19 years of combined project management in private and public sectors.
