UA Local 38 is taking applications for apprentices. There is a massive shortage of smart plumbers, pipefitters and especially HVAC/R and service plumbers. Starting wage is $28 an hour. Some of the best medical benefits anywhere at no cost at all to the employee,very low co-pays, amazing drug program, ERISA defined benefit pension payed for by employers, separate 401a defined contribution plan, life insurance, jury duty pay.
My suggestion is HVAC/R service or start up. A good HVAC/R service tech will never be out of work and can move anywhere there is a demand. Company vehicle to take home, gas card, bridge tolls and parking paid by employer.
In the past, no good contractor would hire someone for HVAC/R without trade school or experience. There is now such a shortage of competent workers joining the trades, there is a chance to get in.
People with HVAC/R experience are encouraged to apply. Auto, diesel mechanics and other related fields are strongly encouraged to apply. They should also apply straight to union signatory companies as a tradesman (pre apprentice or driver) and prove yourself and earn a sponsorship.
Must be willing to work hard, learn and work long hours. I have never worked under 2200 hours in a year and I used to miss work due to the military Reserve. Get a trade with the strong possibility to make 200k taxable a year with over 50k in untaxable pension and medical on top with no student debt.
