Cheapest way to become a DOJ Certified Instructor?

Is their a cheaper/easier way of becoming a DOJ certified instructor to administer the FSC test and safe handling demo? I called one of the instructors on the CA DOJ website and was surprised how expensive the class was...

what is "cheaper/easier" in your context. When I took the class 5 years ago the priced seemed reasonable. What were you quoted?

NRA instructor classes run $250-$300 but do add another source of income if you want to teach classes.

Where are you located? In San Bernardino the Apple Valley Gun Club is going to be doing an instructor class cheap. Apple Valley Lions club is as well.

I think that Firearms Training Associates does them. Or, at least they used to do HSC. I think they run that class concurrent with general handgun and offer it about every weekend. I don't remember prices but maybe start there.

This would be better than what I was quoted and possibly more useful...

What's the basic qualification/requirement class you need to actually start an instruction class? Nra cert or the doj?

Thus my search for a cheaper alternative. Granted, I only called one of the instructors listed on the CA DOJ website so I am trying to shop around for a better price/somewhat local.

He's not in Sac, but if he is doing a class up there for another shop you might be able to sit in..

or suck it up and drive down to the bay area to get the class out of the way... i don't recall him being 450, but maybe more like $200..his NRA instructor courses are 275 so I would suspect it is in that range..

Whhen I did it I had him come to my office for me and my wife and 2 other "randoms" were there. It saved me from having to visit him or another location. you might be able to be one of those "randoms" at some other Sac area location..

that was back in 2015 and I don’t remember. I asked the employee who went and he didn’t remember either. I think they were in Anaheim that’s all we could come up with. Sorry bud.

Old post but this link has the only DOJ approved instructors who will give you the class to administer the FSC. shouldn't be more than like $100.

Effective January 1, 2015, all Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) Program DOJ Certified Instructor applicants are required to have a valid Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and must obtain a COE prior to applying to become a FSC Program DOJ Certified Instructor. The Certificate of Eligibility instructions and application are available at Certificate of Eligibility. Please note that COEs must be renewed annually. The COE processing time is approximately 4 – 8 weeks.
