getting rid of an unregistered "assault rifle"

I heard of a guy who bought a sig 556 patrol on department approval. The guy did not send in his regs to DOJ in time and lost the blue card during a move.
The new Chief will not let the officer regs through the department....so now, he has a unregistered assault rifle.
To avoid legal issues, how does that guy sell it/get rid of it ?

Contact the Calguns Foundation and don't make public posts on the internet that may cause problems further down the line.

Bottom line, unless there's an unknown mitigating circumstance, he's hosed - rifle goes by by and he needs to tread very carefully.

EDIT: wait.. I'm slow today, the 556 isn't a named rifle. so all he has to do is disable any features or get a bullet button for it. Many sources here and elsewhere for those.

First thing that comes to mind is add a BB, given that it is not on the ban list, and keep it for personal use. 2: strip everything off of it, sell lower out state. Most important one: properly dispose of it at a gun buyback. I'M JOKING ON THE LAST ONE. Never destroy a firearm. But I am sure more knowledgeable members will chime in.

The Sig 556 Patrol has a folding stock according to the web site . If that can be changed out to a fixed stock, then add a BB as mentioned above and he should be GTG. If the stock is not changeable, then do as QuarterBoreGunner said and contact CGF.

First thing, take the upper off of it. Then it is no longer semi-auto. Then you can fix things so that if you were to put the upper back on it that it would be legal. Then again, it is not really legal for you to un-make a so-called a-salt weapon.
