I have a 1903 springfield that was sporterized back in the early 1950's. I need to have the receiver drilled & tapped to put sights on the gun. Long guns were treated differently back then. Im going to have a gunsmith do this. Will my rifle end up in some database that forces me to 'register' this gun?

Unless work can be completed while you wait the gunsmith will log the firearm into a A&D book. Once the firearm is returned to you it is logged out to you.
That is the law and will constitute the only hard record of you possessing the firearm. In 42 years I've never had my repair books examined.American soldier by choice. Made in America by the Grace of God.
So, now it is ironic that the State whittles away at the right of its citizens to defend themselves from the possible oppression of their State.
