    AR Pistol

    Hello,

I am trying to find out some information that I believe is misinformation I was given.

I am currently interested in building an AR Pistol.

I was told that I could purchase a AR lower from the local gun store and have them DROS it as a pistol.

I am an LEO.. I was told that since I am SSE and Roster Exempt that I could purchase whatever lower the shop had and DROS it as pistol.

Is this correct.? I read the current 4473 and it says under the instruction for block 18 that it has only three options..Pistol/Long Rifle/Other (receivers).

Since I intend to purchase a stripped lower to build my pistol.. Can this be done?

Yes, LE are exempt. However, if you are doing a pistol build, you should specifically buy a pistol lower. Don't buy a rifle lower and build it as a pistol.

A lower is a lower. It does not matter unless the lower was first built into a long gun. There is really no such thing as a rifle or pistol lower, all that matters is what it was first made into.
