i read online from lassen school last year they recommend the agi series for study aids, the agi teachers are gunsmiths and lassen grad's.

If you want to become a gunsmith (not an armorer) then you should probably start out learning to be a Tig welder and a Machinist first. You might also want to spend sometime learning metal prep as well from painters/polisher's. Then in your spare time learn how guns work.

I have worked on many machines, conventional and CNC. I do have allot of experience working on guns along with precision machined parts most of my life. Some welding, but no Tig experience. But I would like to have proper credentials to be able to market myself. I know by taking formal classes I will learn so much more than I already know. I appreciate everyone's input on this post and have been taking it all in. I've begun inquiring with local city codes and zoning as well as instructional schools. Lassen is out of the question, but AGI may be able to help someone like me. Thanks again for all the replies.

          Gunsmithing School

          Well,
The City of Mission Viejo squashed the home based business idea. The whole plan was to work on guns at home and get certified to make some extra $$$ while doing what I love to do. But fate has it that the City does not allow any home businesses involving guns at any level. To pursue this would involve working for a gun shop, gunsmith or renting some business space to operate any sort of gunsmithing business. Although I would love to have my own business doing gunsmithing, it's not really worth going through everything to try and make it as a gunsmith since I already have a good full time job. So, I will continue my hobby and save my money at this point. If things change for me I would seriously consider changing trades, but for now, I will have to buy more guns if I want to continue my hobby. I will be needing a bigger safe!!
          Best Regards,

i am taking agi's class, some folk dont care for them or have other words to say about them.
but i wager they have NOT taken them and also Lassen uses agi's video course in their classes.....that says something right there.
for agi you would need attention span, drive,$$$ for junk guns to utilize in practicum of the course and either a large collection of your own guns for hands on training aids or Friends that trust you.
Do I need a certificate or diploma? If I bought the CDs and knew what I was doing, got the business licenses, ffl, coe, boe, etc, would I need the paper? Diploma or cert?

I want to complete a full course like agi. I've been doing my own guns for a while. Here are some that I've done. I want to put it to good use while learning more and more.

I've been looking at AGI also even though everyone bad mouths them. I would love to start an apprenticeship somewhere with a gunsmith but I have no idea where to start. I'm currently taking a machinist course and have learned a lot. I graduate in july and would like to continue learning but about gunsmithing.
