      Hello,

For PPT (PRIVATE PARTY TRANSFERS) we charge:
      - $35.00 PER PPT TRANSACTION ($25.00 DROS + $10.00 DEALER FEE)

      - A Private Party Transfer (PPT) is any firearms transaction between two private parties and must be conducted with both parties coming to our store location AT the same time to conduct the PPT.

      Thank you,

Both parties have to be present in the store during transaction.

          Why?

Law says both parties must go to the same FFL, and that FFL will hold the gun for the 10 days.

It's usually the case that buyer and seller show up together, but there's no legal reason the seller could not appear with the gun, do his part, and the buyer appear later that day or the next (I can certainly see not allowing long spaces as a business policy - unless you want to start a paid temporary storage service!) and do his part.

It is really up to the FFL as to whether they really want to do the transfer with the parties there separately. It can be more of a pain. It is also possible for the buyer to show up first, but that is more difficult since unless you have the firearm information, that part of the DROS worksheet is blank.

$35 is all you will be charged as long as you have a lock or safe.

Once you do a PPT at Addax, you will never want to deal with Turner's, Oaktree or any of the shops that push PPTs aside and beach about them. Oh yea, Addax has Ca legal Ballistol in aerosol cans. Not many places sell it so grab some if you like it.

The post I quoted said 'have to be'; if it were 'in our shop we require ...' I would not have responded - folks get to run their businesses as they like, within what CA DOJ and BOE allow.

A Cal DOJ agent strongly recommended that we conduct PPT's with both parties present.

                    they give a reason?

cosignments are usually done as PPTs AFAIK and the buyer and seller are usually never present at the same time.

The recommendation was based on better record keeping based on what they have seen in other audits with missing documentation or misplaced documentation.

gotcha, so for bookkeeping purposes, not that it violates the law, or the "spirit of the law".

                          Correct.

From what we have been told, an inspection and audit can go much smoother and easier if the gun shop does not have to chase paper during the audit.
