Electronic Bound Books for Dealers

I've been struggling to get a bound book system which will work for Linux operating systems. I've used both nmCollector and MyGunDB in the past with Windows OS and ended up settling with AIMI E-Books as my program because it meets all the requirements of the ATF regulations. Only problem is AIMI is Windows only and I can't seem to make it work by porting it through Wine. (I'm dual boot with Ubuntu and Win7.)

My main concern is this, I'm a licensed dealer and gunsmith (in WA). My books have 250-400 entries per year (depending on the activity of my customer base). As a business I need to make sure whatever software I use totally complies with the regs. Six years ago when I first started looking at electronic books, I found that neither of your programs complied with all of the regs; specifically the one about recording changes to firearm entries which are viewable in an audit and the sort/search by all the methods required.

So, my question is this: now that both of you wonderful guys have had a few years to perfect your products (and believe me, I REALLY APPRECIATE the work and effort you put into these) do either of them now fully comply with ATF regulations AND work in Linux? I would really like to transittion my work computers away from MS and get them on Linux only, but I need to make sure all the programs I need will also work in Linux. But I also need to make sure my bound book program fully complies with the regs for my audits.

13. Upon termination of a license, the FFL must provide an American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) text file (in conformity with industry standards) and a file description, in addition to printouts of all records, to the ATF Out-of-Business Records Center. The printout and ASCII text file must contain the information as prescribed by regulation. All records must be forwarde d to the ATF Out-of-Business Records Center in accordance with 27 CFR 478.127, including complete printouts, and ASCII text file (and file description) of the A&D records, and all ATF Forms 4473.

Stay FAR FAR away from AIMI. Once things start going sideways with those books they go pear-shaped REALLY fast, and in my experience support is completely non existent.

Yeah, AIMI support is funny. You can get fair support in the forums, but they want you to pay extra for phone support. Most of the little issues I've had with it I've been able to work out on my own.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I just found your post. Since your post looks like it was addressed to me I will answer you. I did not design NM Collector Software for dealers. It cannot handle that volume of transactions.

We do a high volume of firearms and this software makes it easy to add consecutive serial numbers or batches of serials. Very easy to use.

We were running vBound previously and it was bought up by a new company eBound. Great easy to use software and customer service is great about getting your data switched over.

I'm curious about what issues you guys have had with AIMI?

I've been using it for a few years with great success. The biggest issue was training. Getting started there was a learning curve, but the system itself has been great once we learned to use it.

I have been using Ez Arms Keeper. Works great. I'm pretty sure it dosent run on Linux however.
