Ethnicity

Please don't blast me with side thoughts, but I do have a legit question.

On the DES site they give us lots of options for ethnicity, however I see nothing on the form for Middle eastern, European, or Russian, etc. Are they all considered White? On the Asian side they drill into several sub-regions, so is the rest of world just "White"

Match up what the person chooses on the 4473.

In practical terms (setting Middle Eastern aside for the moment) if you were describing someone that is European or Russian visually (and not knowing where they are from) what would you say? 99% of the world would probably say "Caucasian" or "White"... On the 4473 100% choose white and I've never had any of them, Middle Eastern included, ever ask me, "What do I choose here?"

I've only had Hispanics (and rightfully so) ask me "What do I choose down here? I already chose I'm Hispanic above". I just advise them to choose the closest that they think matches and that most other customers have chosen White in the past.

I had always thought the purpose of the ethnicity question was as a form of identification, but when they added the White-Hispanic question I guess they got away from that. So it seems to me people should be able to self-identify.

Most people around here who saw her assumed she was Hispanic.
