    Problem with DROS charges

I had a customer who was transferring two long guns. One of the long guns did not have a serial number. When I go to that, I seemed to recall that "2antique" was to be used, but when I tried that, it did not work. The popup only said what was not acceptable, not what to use when there is no serial number. The current magic word seems to be "antique2".

This means that the CA DOJ is being intentionally unhelpful.

I opened a new window to get the phone number. It seems that when I did that it exited me out of the system. I told the person on the phone that. I was told to re-enter all the information and re-submit it DROS and then request a credit. Which I did.

I got a call back today denying the credit even though the DROS was submitted at the same time. I suspect if I dispute the charge, then the CA DOJ will prevent me from being able to submit DROS or even release firearms, which is a clear abuse of their position.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to the CA DOJ to issue a credit for the second DROS done at the same time?

Ignore the PO box issue as that is not relevant.

Wow, so the system is flawed and makes you pay an extra $25.00? Sorry about your misfortune, but this is yet another example of the state not caring that they are overcharging their dealers. But, If an FFL misrepresents the DROS fees its a crime??

Yeah, wonderful, a test case. The problem is that it is difficult to fight it since they have all the power and control.

Yep, the system is flawed and it is my problem. The popup could say the proper term for no serial number, but it seems that they don't want to actually say.

The dros_entry_guide.pdf does not say what to do in regards to a firearm which has no serial number.

I don't recall seeing anything about opening another window can log you out and cause problems. I don't see anything which says that a link is actually a popup, which does not harm the DROS entry information, instead of going to a new page.

        Pretty pathetic.

Did you try "NSN"? Sucks about the charge for the second DROS.

I don't agree. This is how they bleed us by thousands of tiny cuts. And the current word is antique2. Of course that may change without warning.

I think that I tried NSN. The fact is that the popup should say what to use.

I believe "pre68" works. I used it for guns that do not have serial numbers.

Wouldn't it be nice if the CA DOJ stated what should actually be used. I could use 99999 and then list in the comments that there is no serial number, but they might take offense to that.

                    Kemasa,
Taking your plight to heart I posed a question to DOJ via the "Report an Issue"
option on the DROS site. Asking the question: "What should I use for a serial number when a firearm has no serial number, i.e. pre 1968 long guns.
DOJ advised to write in the box requesting a serial number, "2antique"...!

To elaborate further; my initial question asked:

"How is a firearm without a serial number recorded on a PPT DROS? What is used in the serial number box (initial issue report)"

                            Their written response was:
DOJ Response (10/31/2014 01:04 PM ): John you should use the serial number located on the firearm. If you need further assistance please contact us at 1.855.365.3767.

                            I called and was advised:
DOJ advised to write in the box requesting a serial number, "2antique"...!

Ok, so I was told today that I would get a credit, which is quite nice to be done with this. I have it in writing from the web page (saved), but it won't take effect until the next invoice.

I also was told that for a PPT, it is "2antique", but that for a long gun transaction which has no serial number it is ""antique2". Yes, it is different.
