DROS handgun to self, 4473 yes or no?

DROS a handgun to myself. I understand that an A&D entry is all that is required, but what are the pros or cons of doing a 4473? Or, is it a waste of time and paper?

My ATF agent asked me to do it during my most recent inspection. I didn't bother to ask her if it was required or not: 2 minutes to fill out a 4473 doesn't bother me in the least, and happy ATF = happy FFL, generally.

The less chance for an error the better I think.

yup. I run into the same problem when buying a C&R firearm from a dealer and providing my 03FFL. they still wanted me to fill out a 4473. I explained that it wasn't needed since it was an FFL>FFL transfer, and that all filling out the 4473 did was add another document that needed to be 100% correct because ATF would consider any errors to be violations, even on a form tht wan't required in the first place

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

You can only avoid the 4473 if you are a sole proprietor or a C&R FFL holder for a C&R firearm.

I was told that it is best to not fill it out if you don't have to as it is just another document which if there are any mistakes that you can be written up on.

nope. dealers have to go through SSE as well for their personal off-roster acquisitions.
