    Guns in the mail

For a handgun, can a person mail to a FFL for gunsmithing or does it have to go FFL to FFL and back the same?

You may ship a handgun (overnight, FedEx, UPS) to a gunsmith and he may return it to you. He'd require your signature upon delivery back to you. If he's a bonafide gunsmith he'll have an FFL.
I would suggest yo8u contact the "gunsmith" and get directions from him.

It can go direct or it can go through a FFL. If it goes direct, it can be directly returned, but if you send it direct and the gunsmith won't send it back directly, then it would have to be re-DROSed. Also, it is cheaper to ship a handgun through a FFL, depending on the FFL's fee, since the FFL can ship it USPS, so you might want to check what your FFL would charge to ship it.

Just contact whoever you are sending it to. I think FedEx is the only one who will handle guns.

            I am a private party.
            It is as TYKE said.
I have one coming back from Rock Island today via FEDEX.
In my area postal service requires shipment from a FFL.They pretty much make it unfriendly to ship guns at all.
UPS and FedEx are fine.Long guns can go regular shipping.Handguns complete are required overnight or 2 day(Expensive).I have shipped handguns several time in parts, regular shipping.
They should always be shipped to a FFL.
Most manufactures have the provision to issue a shipping label for you.S&W just did this for me.
