I ordered a firearm from an out of state wholesaler. Can I write the wholesaler's CA DOJ Verification Approval Number as the license number in the receipt section or do I need to write their FFL number? Thank you.

You should use their FFL number. ATF won't want the CA number in the A&D.

You can also just use their name and address. For acquisitions the regs say "name and address" or "name and FFL#" in the bound book.

I have always used name and address for private individuals, but never for FFL's. Name and number for them. I agree DOJ numbers don't touch my bound book.

What are the pros (if any) and cons of noting the CFLC approval # in the bound book? I've been doing it just for convenience and during inspections neither ATF or CA DOJ had an issue.

It does not matter much, except that the bound book is a Federal document and the CFLC is a CA requirement. There is some question as to whether CA can review the bound book or not. It is not required information under Federal law.

Personally, I would not record it there. Remember it is not always required as well.
