    Non-valid Drivers License, but temp?

So I got my C license renewed and applies for my M1 at the same time. Because the M1 has a 6 months permitting period they have not issued me a "hard" drivers license with my new address on it. I have to wait until 9/28/14 for my 6 month permuting period is over until I will receive a "hard" drivers license/ ID.

With that said, I have my vehicle registration, my passport, DMV print out, brown address change card, and temp C license and m1 permit. Is there any way I can still transfer names on a gun I already own? Could I, instead of waiting until 9/28, get a california ID (non driver's license ID) and use that to do transfer/buy?

When does your current drivers license with incorrect address expire?

The title vs. post in thread has me a little confused. If the Drivers License is valid still (not expired) and just has the wrong address then you're fine. To sell it doesn't matter, to buy/transfer into your own name the DL + Reg (with current correct address) + HSC is all you need.

I was thrown off by the reference to a DL and then an M1 which I have no idea what that is.

The M1 is a motorcycle endorsement.

Was your DL marked as invalid by the expiration year being punched out? If so, it is not valid and you will have a problem, which the CA ID would solve. If your DL is valid, even though it does not have the M1 listed on it, it is not a problem. If the address is not your current address, you would need a government document with your current address on it, otherwise for handguns you need one of many documents for proof of residency. In CA, for handguns, your CA ID/DL is not proof of residency, strange as that is. You don't need a secondary proof, only one, but many think that it is secondary because they don't realize that the CA ID/DL does not count as far as the address is for handguns.

Calif. D/L as Proof of Residency

[QUOTE=kemasa; In CA, for handguns, your CA ID/DL is not proof of residency, strange as that is. .[/QUOTE]

Not so strange considering the number of fraudulent Calif. Drivers Licenses that are out there.
Some years ago I took a class from the Enforcement Division of DMV. We were told that at the time that DMV had unearthed clerical staffing with direct connections to the Hells Angles. Those clerks that had been identified were supplying fraudulent D/Ls to the H.A.s. Other MC "gangs" were also suspected of similar actions.
In December of 2012 there were several arrests within DMV for fraudulent issuance of D/Ls to illegal immigrants.
Given the nature and prevalence of identity theft/fraud, it really doesn't surprise me that D/Ls aren't acceptable as Proof of Residency.

They check to make sure that the CA ID/DL is valid, so that is not the issue.

Only for handguns does CA consider the CA ID/DL not acceptable for proof of residency. I asked once and was told it was because there were some people who lived in NV, but worked in CA as a driver, so they had to have a CA DL, but then the license should have a NV address.

It's for a long gun. If this makes any more sense I will try to elaborate. I hold a temporary paper license so I can just drive, but if you look at my laminated card license it says it expired a few months ago and has my old address on it. I did get a CA ID because I didn't want to wait another month to get my correct license in. But if anyone knows a for sure way around this where I don't have to show a valid and correct address license then I can get my gun even sooner!

If you have a CA ID, then you can use that. A paper DL does not work, nor does an expired DL. There is really no way around it. You need a valid CA ID or DL to submit the DROS, either will work.

An incorrect residence address can be dealt with by other paperwork, as long as you have a valid CA ID or DL. It would need to be a government document due to Federal requirements.

Thanks! I got the CA ID in the works so I don't have to wait until the end of september.
