Out of State non FFL ship to Ca

Can an out of state non FFL ship guns into CA without going through an FFL. I'm looking to purchase from an out of state private party. Thanks

The firearm can be shipped by someone with out an FFL. The firearm must be shipped to someone with an FFL and the DROS run with them. The only exception is if the firearm is a C&R long gun and the purchaser has an 03 FFL and a COE.

Thanks. The seller though he had to have his FFL ship the rifle to my FFL, instead of shipping directly to my FFL.

I think New Jersey has a law that says FFL to FFL only. A gray area at least for NJ gun owners.

Many FFLs will only accept shipments from other FFLs. It's not the law, but just a personal/company decision that the FFL makes. So you need to check with your local FFL first to make sure they don't have a problem receiving a shipment from a private party. It's actually a bit easier for them to receive a shipment from a private party because no CFLC letter is required. But the receiving FFL does need to document the sender's name and address, and sometimes sellers don't include that info, which causes a problem for the receiving FFL.
