PPT Storage fee? Seems like a ripoff to me

I was in a shop yesterday and saw a sign saying something like this:

ALL PPT TRANSFERS NOT PICKED UP ON THE 10TH DAY WILL BE CHARGED A $35 STORAGE FEE

Since I have never heard of anything like this, I asked the clerk if it meant you had 10 days to pick it up or it meant you have one day?? He confirmed you have ONE day to pick up your PPT (the first day after the 10 day waiting period is up) and if you can't make it on the tenth day, then you get to pay a $35 storage fee!!

    Is this common?

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I don't know how common that is, and I don't particularly like it. Sure makes you wonder if they really want your business. Now is that a flat $35 or $35 a day after 10?

In my opinion, that's a very unreasonable fee and I would not give my $ to any FFL that imposed such an obvious ripoff fee.

Sure, at some point, but not on day 11.

What I've seen from multiple LGS where storage fees start after 30 days if merchandise is not picked up.

It seems to be a total rip off to me and nothing but price gouging by the FFL. I understand it takes a lot to maintain a gun store in this people's republic and we need to support our local businesses but that's a two way street, the FFL needs the support of the public to stay in business. I would go elsewhere and support a friendlier FFL.

I thought about it for a second, and that's what prompted me to ask them about it. The guy said clearly that you have ONE day to pick up your PPT firearm. After that, you pay $35. My friend walked over and heard me asking, he said "surely it means you have 10 days and THEN they charge you?" and the clerk said NO, ONE DAY. Then he went on to explain how many firearms they have in back in storage and people don't come to pick them up... I guess I was supposed to feel sorry for them at this point?

It was "Outdoor Sportsman" in Stockton. The sign is on the rack behind the gun counter, probably 11X14" and bright red.

I did a three handgun PPT at Outdoor Sportsman(last year). I was told it was $35 a day after the first pick-up day. I thought it meant $35 a day starting on the 11th day. I only went there because the seller wanted to do the PPT's there. I have not do a PPT there since. A lot of other places to do a PPT in San Joaquin county that don't pull this bull. I picked them up on the 10th day with no issues.

I'd bet they do it for one reason and one reason only...so customers won't go there to do PPTs.

You'd be surprised...I'm a SMALL FFL and here's what I have that has never been picked up:

Imagine what gun stores have... Now what I do think is lame is that PPTs have the fee and not all transfers.. If it was really about getting stuff out of storage it would apply to everyone equally.. the fact that it just applies to PPTs is a clear sign that is the business they don't want to be doing (for $10 a transaction).

I've been starting to collect on my abandoned firearm policy though so some of these will be sold off soon. I'm surprised the stores don't have a similar policy .. they'd net more money reselling the firearm then adding lame fees and pissing the good paying local customers off.

On time? You mean at the soonest possible minute? Well, me for one. I will pick up firearms "on time" between day 10 and day 30. But, that does not mean on as the clock strikes "240 hours".
