    11 day waiting period

This morning I started the DROS process on a rifle. The dealer told me the waiting period is 11 days. When I asked why, the response was it is 11 days so that they do not have to consider the time of day the DROS was submitted. Is adding an extra day beyond the 10 24 hour periods required by statute a standard practice among FFL dealers?

Yes, some FFLS do 11 days. I avoid any FFL that does that.

that would be "THAT" stores policy

Big 5 started doing that to make sure that their clerks did not let a gun out to soon

With the new DROS system starting 2014 you can not let one go to soon as it will not let you log it out before its time

that being said we had a guy show up at 10am today that dose not clear till 2:30 pm today. He was pissed off that he could not get it at 10am. So even thou we do the 10 day I can see why some dealers would go to 11 days as it would stop this from happening.

Doesn't sound like a big deal. You could be there when the shop opens the 11th morning after starting the DROS.

As long as the FFL is up front about it, what's the big deal?

It happens. Not a deal breaker in my book but I am usually too busy to make the 10 day anyway.

Ah, but they were not up front about it. This was a special order and I paid the full purchase price including tax and DROS up front. I was not informed of this policy until the gun arrived.

LA AFB does that and I believe Camp Pendleton does as well...

I had one go 12 because the FFL was closed the 10th and 11th day. Not a big deal as long as they tell you. If they don't tell you I'd find another FFL next time.

Rule is shall not release before 10 24hr periods. Doesn't say must release after 10 days.

The DROS form gives the date and time that it can be picked up. As said, the new system does not allow the firearm to be delivered early or late, so there really is no excuse for forcing people to wait longer.

Even with the new system, I still use a stamp on the bottom of the DROS that tells them when they can pick up. Time is always 1 minute after the Dros pick up time. If your pick up falls on a day we are closed, I list the next day we are open.
This doesn't stop 100% of people from showing up early, but it was a huge improvement.
